the one that was a cross between Nelex and Tuvok?

Yes. He seemed to be unable to control his emotions at all.

i just watched "devil in the dark" [TOS] and i definitely identify with the Horta.

Actually arn't the Horta genetically engineered to be Aspies? Sharp minded, Hunter's intellect but with superior IQ, sensitive to stimulae like the smells and tastes of poisons for starters, and asexually reproduced in cloning tanks? One has to wonder then if there is a God. Are they just a bunch of Genetisis who have picked our linages to be the mutant ones the evolved ones? To be an important but seperate part of the whole (dominion, or humans in the real world's case).

Now the really strange thing was the Horta were used as dioplomatcs though, one has to be open to other people to be diplomats even if to maniuplate them. Like the Insular North Korans eventually have to shake hands with their cousins who they detest, and China will eventually have to open up fully, or else suffer as it has in the past, constant boom and bust modes. America, is a very open country, tourists, academics, business, artisans, flow in and out of it.

The Federation is like America, (militarialy arrogant at times, jingonistic), BUT a United federation of PLANETS, that values liberal philosophic principles, such as rule of law, inclusion (ie Geordi's visor, and Alien captains).

If anything, stereotypically the Vulcans, would be very aspie like. Very insulated, (their mysterious chamber of elders), their monestaries, and logic vs emotional outbursts of love, and xenophobia of say humans. For instance Spock is a Human Vulcan, who is constantly insulted with racism. (most illogical), and prejudice even from his graduating comittee, who look at his tainted human DNA genes, from his mom, rather than his marks, thus they are choosey for inclusion, just as Aspies are choosey of who they want to be friends with, as likewise we may not necessariy be Bigots, and xenophobes, but not as willing to be as open.

Umm... I don't know how to break this to you, but AB said Horta not Vorta...

A horta is a critter that eats rocks... :P

PS
Still a good post though.

I think Kirk (in my mind!) Shatner is cool, 'Kingdom Of Spiders' anyone? Very strongly associate with Spock.
One episode in particular springs to mind, "This Side of Paradise", the one with the pods plant things.
Seeing Spock free from his emotional suppression, burden lifted.. and then having to revert back..
Stirs something up inside I can't quite figure out or get my head around..
Ha, TOS only for me, nice, tidy format, oozes charm. 'The Prisoner' is another series I feel to have a similar vibe, an you can't mess with McGoohan!
Feel free to talk me 'round to the virtues of the following series' of course!

It's odd, I used to identify most with Data for well, obvious reasons. Spock before I saw any of TNG. I switched from Spock to Data once I watched TNG, Spock didn't seem to have quite that searching nature that I could relate to in Data. Spock always seemed very comfortable with just his logic, while Data was always seeking to understand this emotional world the humans around him lived in.

As I've gotten older though I have started to realize I emphasis with Picard more in many ways. Except I'm always astonished whenever someone honestly is dumb enough to follow me on anything (seriously, you should only need to know me a couple of weeks to realize I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, I'm just winging it as best I can) and he doesn't seem to have that problem. Well except that one episode where he got mindlinked with Crusher and she called him out on not having any idea where he was going. But his interests are more similar to mine, a very classical taste bent towards history, old books and philosophy. He's reserved but still certainly has emotions and does struggle with them, but does not like to - what I would call flaunt them and NTs would call share.

Good points all, and well said. I'm still going with Spock. Yes, I think it's a generational thing and I have been called Ms. Spock.
While he is well aware that everyone else makes their decisions on an emotional basis, he strives not to.

TOS: Nurse Chapel. She pines away for Spock but he can't give her what she needs. I can relate.

TNG: Barclay. I would totally be that guy if I had that job. This would be my "one" pick.

DS9: I identify with both Nog and Jake Cisco. Neither one is who they are supposed to be, but they try. I can identify a little bit with Gul Dukat too, as scary as that sounds. This was my favorite Star Trek series.

Voyager: 7 of 9. She's human but she has trouble showing it.

Enterprise: Malcom Reed. Very focused on his job, too focused.

i would rather debate the finer points of logic with spock, or haggle with Quark.

I would love to hear Garak debating logic with Spock!! !

*Not much of a haggler myself but I do love Quark's mixing Vulcan and Ferengi philosophy when arguing with Sekona. And... well... we've seen Garak haggle. Of course it is fantastic.*

But anyhow... That's not what this is about, is it. *Getting geek-thrills at the thought of Garak and Spock in a debate together.*

My favourite character in Star Trek is Dr Bashir, but although I keep getting him and Data in most online quizzes (What character are you most like) I think I identify most with Odo.

Odo is an observer and an outsider, and also lacks the intuitive understanding of "humanoids", but this means that he can observe small details that others sometimes miss. (Me too -- which I tend to use in my writing while Odo uses observation a lot in his work as an investigator.)

And in a strange way I can also relate to some (thankfully not all) of the frustration he has with Dr Mora, and certainly to his horror at being pursued by Lwaxana Troi. And he and I also both lack a sense of smell. hehe.

I am Vulcan, assimilated later by Borg. Resistance is futile!

To be honest, I have the most common with Spock.
My favourite character is Data (), we would talk a lot about our fascination in Humans. I want to be a machine like him (see my av).
I'm spontaneous and playful like Odo, but he's much better in reading body language.

See if the question was which character do you wish you could be like I'd go for Troi. I mean being able to just sense what others are feeling with no effort or complicated guesswork? That would be like half my problems solved instantly.
