That pretty much sums it up  They're hive minds. They like to pick on things other people pick on.

I was incredibly bored with Harry Potter, Buffy, Teletubbies and all that crap, but hey, I'm not exactly the target audience either...

I heard that a lot of the hate started to go around when it was becoming really popular among females, and then a lot of them started going "Why are you not more like Edward", guys started to be held to unrealistic levels. Not to mention they were being told they were worse then a 100 hundred year old sparkly guy who stalks a teenage girl.

Whats worse is seeing all the middle aged women fall over these young actors, everyone would seriously be up in arms if the genders were reversed.

I don't think I need to get started on vampires in the sunlight, hey vampires don't need to catch fire, that was invented in the movie Nosferatu, but usually had some hinderence not looking like diamonds.

Oh really? I haven't heard of any such riots at the hundreds of thousands of
strip clubs
boob bars
porn conventions
Hooters

Give me a break.
The same scene in that demotiv happens every day a thousand times over,
usually in a far more sexualized context than Twilight's PG themes,
only it's old men ogling young women.

The genders ARE reversed this time- and that seems to be a cause for a lot of the hostility.

You seem a bit dismissive on this...if there were an equal and opposite reaction where men were, say, openly drooling (to the point of creating signs advertising their advanced age) over someone like Hermoine Granger from Harry Potter, would you not feel that it's going a bit far?

Note: I don't particularly find Rule 34 to be an equal reaction as I described above.

I think the whole Twilight phenomenon was manufactured to either be strongly loved or strongly hated. Same with Beiber and many other examples.
This way when people talk about it they do so passionately and it slowly starts to take up more and more of people's thoughts.

=Profit!

As I pointed out already, older men mooning after younger women is not thought of twice, as evidenced by the demographics of billions of dollars worth of porn annually- which is on a level of sexualization Twilight can't remotely compare to. The vast majority of marriages are between an older man and a younger woman. So men openly drooling over Emma Watson? She's 20. I can find men openly-drooling over 15 year olds in comments all over the internet.

It's only when the reverse happens that some people seem to get upset.

What, an opportunity to bash Twilight and my instant messenger and my Ban the Twilight website membership didn't send me an email notification calling for mass trolling on all forums. Geeze, you'd think I wouldn't have missed this one. JK

The internet isn't holding up posters in real life advertising those thoughts.

I agree. If a man does exactly what those women were doing, people would be disgusted and call him a pervert.

When a woman does it? Totally acceptable.

I'm not a man, and I don't hate Twilight passionately, but I do dislike it intensely.

Firstly, it's based on a series of children's books. I may be a prude, but I don't think children should be exposed to that level of sexuality.

Secondly, it has no wit or heart, unlike Buffy/The Lost Boys

Thirdly, it has no class or style, unlike Blade/Let the Right One In

Fourthly, vampires, if not witty or classy, should at least be scary, like 30 Days of Night/Salem's Lot

And if they can't manage any of the above, then vampire films should at least have some eye candy, like Underworld/From Dusk Till Dawn

However I don't generally troll websites with my opinions, I'm sure Twilight fans would think my taste is pretty poor at times too! :)
