In recent years I would have to say that Dead Like Me is one of my all time favorites.

i was captivated by every episode of this little known australian show which depicts the moral-less motivation that fuels the furnace of the production of a typical "current affairs" program. it is hilarious to me (and it is written as a comedy as well, and it is rarely that i identify with humor that is externally presented).
it is also delightfully educational. it is a true rendition (albeit exaggerated) of what i expect to happen behind the scenes in the production of the nightly current affairs program.

here is one half hour episode i find to be well worth using as an example (split into 3 files). it is called "the siege". i know no one will watch it, but there are not many threads i find interesting at the moment, so i may as well post it. it is very well thought out, and quite well acted by most of the cast.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned 'The West Wing' yet, but that's a great show. Intense, intelligent scripts and a surprising amount of humour at times. Battlestar Galactica reimagined was great too, as was Six Feet Under, all contenders if you ask me. Oh and obligatory mention for 'The Wire', I'm not sure everyone would enjoy it but it's an expertly made TV show. Oh and Deadwood, I'll stop here, I'll only keep thinking of more...

All time fav is probably "The Wonder Years". Followed closely by "Quantum Leap"...and cannot omit "Frasier", "Family Ties", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "Big Bang Theory", and the all too briefly run "Freaks and Geeks"

i like "hustle". it is a show about a small company of "grifters" who perform elaborate cons.
their targets (marks) are usually other con men or people who are worthy of being ripped off.

one has to pay careful attention to the entire show to appreciate the intricacies of the plot.

here is part 1 of 4 of an episode. if you watch this and decide to watch the rest i am sure you will be able to find your way to the rest.

i like "columbo". it is a 1970's detective show, but it is not corny like most of them. columbo appears to be disheveled and disorganized and rather simple witted, and he is often pitted against the sharpest criminal minds who think they have planned the perfect crime. they are usually very smug and confident that the simpleton columbo could never figure out what they did, but columbo is a genius who pretends he is stupid, and he always pins them by stealth mercilessly to the board as he calculates and uncovers how they did it.
it is hilarious to me to see the look on the faces of the smug felons when they suddenly realize that the bumbling idiot who they thought they were dealing with, is slowly compressing them into a corner.

here is a classic interrogation scene in exceptionally poor quality. the sound is harsh.

i used to like "doc martin", but the writers softened his character and he got married etc so i am not as interested now. the early episodes were good.
his character reminds me of AS (or similar (as i know it)) in the earlier part of the series.

Other than "The X-Files," here are my other all-time favorites:

1. Star Trek (all incarnations)
2. Farscape
3. Homicide: Life on the Street
4. Daria
5. Futurama

Best shows EVA.
