I love "Coupling" and never get tired from it, alot of people compare it to "Friends" because of the theme, setting etc but "Coupling" is so much more intelligent in my opinion, the script is really really good, and the acting is as well.
Love Thy Neighbour is an (in)famous British comedy from the early/mid-1970s, which is basically about a racist white working-class Labour-voting bloke (today he'd be a stereotypical BNP voter) who has a black Trinidadian middle-class Tory voter move next door. It's a byword for racist attitudes these days but both the black stars were actually very pleased about their work on the show (it didn't do Rudolph Walker any harm) but spanned seven series and even a big-screen spin-off.

Non Brits should check out some more less main-stream stuff, if you can find it, then look for some of Armando Iannucci's work like "The Thick of It", "The Day Today", "I'm Alan Partridge" or Chris Morris's stuff like "Brass Eye" or "Jam", this is the real cutting edge of British comedy, it's proper intelligent observational satirical comedy with something to say about the human condition.

I'm a huge fan of the works of Armando Iannucci, Chris Morris, Peter Baynham and co.
My favourite shows have to be Brasseye and Jam.
If you want to check out something that is generally accepted as a comedy (albeit pretty dark) and explores such taboo themes as rape, incest and zoophilia in a rather unique way then I recommend Jam. Also, if you are a fan of ambient music then Jam is the thing to see. Each disturbing scene is heavily edited and accompanied by a creepy mysterious ambient track to further add to the unsettling nature of the show.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't notice "Look Around You" listed anywhere. Look around you series 1 is on par with Monty Python as far as I am concerned. For anyone wondering, its a series of mock educational videos, shot in the '70s/'80s educational style, but the content an absurd twist on the actual topics:
