My only question now is - as the company now knows what is awaiting them on the Engineer's moon base, why in God's name would they want to bring a specimen back?!?!

The same reason Weyland Yutani has been obsessed with bringing back a xenomorph specimen in the Alien series.

I am interested if they will bridge Yutani into the movie series in some way, as it it was only Weyland in this, we saw some Yutani in the end of AVP:R with a Yautja plasma caster, maybe they will be a more millitary part.

Need to say something in spoilers.

During the scene where Elizabeth Shaw undergoes...shall we say self-surgery? The scene's aftermath, for some reason, reminded me of that scene in the original Men in Black, where Jay has to help a squid alien give birth while Kay discusses things with the father. At the end, Jay, who is tossed around by tentacles, ends up sprawled on the ground with a cute baby squid in his arms, and Kay says to the father, "Congratulations. It's a squid."

I couldn't help but say this to a friend I was watching with after what happens to Shaw. In bad taste, to be sure, but no worse than what David says later ("I didn't know you had it in you.")

BTW, were the scriptwriters Doctor Who fans? After all, the Doctor once had a companion who was a scientist called Liz Shaw...

Also there is kind of an odd kind o irony when dealing with chemical/biological/radialogical weapons like the Xenomorphs is Aliens. Sometimes to defend against them you have to be the most advanced in researching them.

You're right but WY doesn't care about defending against them, they just want the xenomorphs as their own biological weapons. That's a recurring theme of all the Alien movies, including 3 and Resurrection. The Company is the real monster of the series and their manipulation and greed is what causes people to die.

I always thought that the first film Alien was saying more about the horror of humanity than the alien.

I saw this movie yesterday in IMAX 3D. It is great in some ways, dismal in others. The acting and the pace - awful. It failed to deliver suspense. Special effects, cinematography were awesome as hell. It's a sublime movie in those respects. Too many Alien/2001 echoes and imprints.
The plot is intriguing, but not that developed. A cliffhanger in the end. Sequel, anyone?

Despite this, definitely a must see!

I liked David's very subtle expressions of anger to any description of him as just an unfeeling machine. And when he does something bad at the expense of the crew, he seems to feel a certain satisfaction.
I hope I didn't give too much away. :?

There were certain aspects of the plot they could have explored a little more, like with the predicament of David being an android and what, exactly, people expect from artificial intelligence and the "others" and why they did what they did although I could piece a little of the reason together with the minimal information in Prometheus. I could tell where Scott was trying to go with the plot. I don't want to give too much away, so I won't be too specific. This is why I think there might be a sequel. This movie held back a lot.

I was going to see this movie in real 3d but it was sold out and I got the IMAX times confused with the others online. By the time I got there, IMAX was the only option and boy am I glad I saw the thing in IMAX 3D. It was so awesome! Some scenes were breathtaking. I do not regret spending the extra money on a ticket. Well worth it. The movie was definitely done with IMAX in mind and it shows.

Yeah, I'm definately going back to see it in 3D but, I don't know how it's going to turn out because of my vision problems. One thing I'm wondering about David is if he didn't have this all planned from the beginning and set about all these events on purpose. He definately seems to be the only one who knows what he is doing the whole movie. I'm pretty sure he's played Shaw. He definately seems to have chosen her for some special reason. We'll have to see...

David and Shaw were bar none the best characters in the movie. I really don't have any problems with the ending being vague at all, especially in an age where everything is spoon fed to us via bold text exposition or dialog. Honestly, I think part of the problem I initially had was that I walked in about 15 minutes late because I got my times confused and wanted to avoid previews and apparently there's a very important scene at the start (I know what it is, trying not to spoil).

The more I think about the movie the more I like it and want to see it again. I definitely rate the movie above A3 and Resurrection.

I wonder if David will be made into an evil android character in a future film? He could go either way. Savior of humanity or calculating so he can bring the bio weapons back to global corporations. There wasn't much explanation in the film. Just subtle hints. Maybe he wanted Shaw to live because he knew she would be the only one willing to continue on?
If the film has this sub plot of bringing them back, it will be too much like the Alien movies.

Excuse me, what about Vickers? She might seem like a villain at first glance, but most of the time, she's the only one with any sense.

If you missed the first 15 mins you miss some of the only character developement and probably the funniest scenes of the movie. Another thing I'd recomend to anyone looking to enhance the movie experience is to check out the promotional adds.

There are atleast 3 important character developement adds. One each for Wayland, Shaw and, David. This is extra matterial that isn't part of the movie but, it does enhance the movies in some ways.
