Christopher Lee as Saruman (LOTR)

I know Stephen King had been critical of Jack Nicholson's performance in The Shining (he thought Nicholson looked crazy from the start), but I absolutely agree, no one else could have played the part.

You seem like you're a fan of The Shining...? This is just going from other stuff you've replied to me about the film.

Not a super fan, but I thought it was one of the best horror films ever made.

I see, it's my favourite horror film too. And while on the topic of horror films...

Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates was incredible in Pyscho

My wife and I just went to see that today, and I couldn't agree more. Plus, Dave Batista played Drax better than anyone else could have.

And in another horror movie, Dee Wallace was probably irreplaceable in The Howling.

Richard Gere as Clifford Irving in 'The Hoax' (2007). I disliked Gere in every other film I saw him in, but he was amazing here. Not only did he look like Irving, he became him, or at least his perception of the man. He deserved an Academy Award for that performance.

a minority opinion here- I think Vincent Schiavelli would have made a better "Doc Brown" in the B2TF series. and Tina Turner [original casting choice, she turned it down] would have made a far superior Rita Mae Brown in "Ghost." Rod Steiger [first casting choice, he turned it down as he had just played a military person in "The Sergeant" and didn't want to repeat himself] would have been a knock-out [compared to George C. Scott] in "Patton" - his clarion tenor voice and ramrod manner was FAR MORE like the real Gen. Patton compared to Scott's excessively basso rendition. and Paul Newman or Steve McQueen would have made a better Inspector Dave Toschi [on-screen counterpart Inspector Harry Callahan] than Clint Eastwood who was just too lanky for the part.
aside from that little rant, I don't think anybody else other than Jaye Davidson could have handled the "Dil" part [in "The Crying Game"] any better, he was truly a natural and 'tis a pity he got out of the business shortly afterward.

Oh, dear!! I have to disagree with you on Tina. Although I LOVVVVVVE her (Tina), Whoopi, IMO, was BRILLIANT!! That's the movie for which she won an Oscar, I THINK!!

(BTW, Her character's name was ODA Mae Brown. Later, in the film, she takes the name, "Rita"----those names were INTENTIONALLY, sort-of, "linked" as an homage to the novelist, RITA Mae Brown.)

I like your idea about Vincent Schiavelli----I LOVE him!! I thought "Jim Ignatowski" ("Taxi"----can't think of his real name, right now) was good, too, though.

No one could have played author William Burroughs better than:

Peter Weller (called William Lee - a Burroughs pen name) in Naked Lunch.

Viggo Mortenssen (called by fictional name of Bull Lee) in On The Road.

Ben Foster in Kill Your Darlings.

Kieffer Sutherland in Beat.

Each of these actors brought something to the role of Burroughs.
