Queer as Folk - the original American HBO series. Even though it's been over for years, it's still an amazingly groundbreaking series. As a gay man, I can relate to a lot of the stories and characters.. but it's also simply a very well done drama series. It's mostly watched by gay guys and straight/bi girls. It really does shine a very bright light on a huge number of issues gay people deal with in their lives. The only unrealistic thing about it is that not ALL of these things are going to happen to the same very small social circle of people.. BUT, all of the things that happen in the show happen in real life. It touches on everything from coming out, to ageism, hiv/aids, drugs, gay marriage, adoption, various gay rights, gay bashing, harassment, work, business, politics, love, relationships, hookup culture, homelessness, discrimination, the club scene etc etc - everything that's possible for gay people to go through in real life.. and it does it in a very captivating and entertaining, sexy, way.

Lost

Yeah, they didn't do the greatest job at tying up all of the loose ends (and I think audience reaction was equally split concerning the ending), but it was still really engaging and plot was interesting, lots of twists. Characters and their relationships were interesting, too, except for some parts that were too much like a soap opera. I especially liked that I started out thinking it would be drama/action, and it ended up having a strong supernatural element.

Writing as someone who is frequently disconnected from reality, Twin Peaks is an excellent representation of what my world feel likes. I still believe it's the most original TV series of all time.

Yeah liking that right now!

Back in my college years, when it first ran, it was just not only my favorite show, but the favorite of about everyone in liberal arts classes at my school.

Yeah I can imagine. My mum tells me when it was released first in UK, there were only a few channels, and everyone was watching it. Nothing quite like that had been seen by large mainstream audience. Sure it alienated a few, but not compared to much of Lynch's stuff, which I like a lot. Wasn't it a directorial collaboration? Perhaps a pity the studio forced them to resolve things about the story, before they wanted, supposedly killing off the show.

Yeah, the network was and is run by philistines. And yes, Lynch did have a co-director who did several of the episodes.

I know that Lynch is returning to direct the third season, and that it will be set approximately 25 years after the events that transpired in the first two seasons.

I think all of the shows on my list have already been mentioned, except Flight of the Conchords. That might be more of an Oz/NZ thing, not sure. Love it though

I loved flight of the conchords. It wasn't big in the uk, but it had an appreciative audiance. I think I love Jermaine a little bit, especially as Bowie.

Big Lynch fan here, really excited about Twin Peaks season 3 and glad he'll be very involved unlike season 2.

I love the series Monk, I only saw it last year. He's just mentioned as having OCD but he is very Aspie. Really loved that show and was upset when it ended (well when I'd watched all the episodes) although I was very annoyed when they replaced his assistant, but I warmed to her after a while.

I also love Flight of the Concords, The Mighty Boosh, Father Ted, League of Gentlemen, Snuff Box, Peep Show, Black Books, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Everybody Loves Raymond, loads more I can't think of right now

Got to say I love league of gentleman am glad they are considering bringing it back. I actually saw them perform it live at the apollo was amazing! No idea how they managed to change so quickly into the different characters.
