Anybody else sick of "sociopathic heroes"?

To be honest, this is probably the main reason I don't bother watching films or TV series released in the past ten years or so; banal, predictable, vulgar garbage.
Yeah I don't really bother to watch the new movies or shows either. I mostly stick to older stuff that I enjoy like The Golden Girls, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Courage the Cowardly Dog, my favorite classic horror movies like Night of the Living Dead and Carrie, and funny movies like Addams Family Values or Austin Powers.
And I don't mind a little bit of vulgar when it's done tastefully but most movies take it way too far.
I've always said that the last decent film released was The Matrix in 98 or 99, with the possibile exception of Mulholland Drive, which was mid noughties.
As far as TV series are concerned, the last one I really loved was X-Files (93-03).

The last newer movie I really liked was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street from 2007.
It was a very dark and gritty movie but I grew attached to all the characters. I actually felt sorry for Sweeney Todd because he was driven to homicidal rage by an evil man who destroyed his family and I think that in the very end he came to regret what he was doing. I also liked Ms. Lovett because of the way she took care of Sweeney and Toby even though she was evil and twisted enough to turn Mr. Todd's murder victims into meat pies and sell them to unknowing hungry customers for profit.
As a musical I thought that all the songs in the movie were dark but beautiful and helped express what each character was feeling in a way that simple talking would never be able to.
I do like dark stuff I admit.
