Adult animation sucks
Your definition of adult humour is odd but I'm not trying to insult you or anything so please hear me out. Cartoons like Futurama, while containing some adult humour, isn't made specifically for adults. it's like The Simpsons, it was made to be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Some cartoons that cater more towards adults would be Archer, Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty. Others like The Venture Bros and Bob's Burgers also somewhat fit that category because they are more mature than cartoons like Futurama. Not that adult humour has to go hand in hand with maturity.

If the reply is towards me, I find it interesting in how I wasn't even considering humour in non-children animation b/c to be honest I am fine with animation which can little if no humour and don't see it in American productions enough.
That isn't too say that 'by default' I think the humour in non-American animation is prime--a problem with how most animation is perceived in the first place is so often for the sake of frivolity and the audacious, not uncommonly confrontational sociopolitical undertones of post-teen years Americanized humour is something I can find obnoxious and tiresome and imo is one reason for American animation is under-developed in a major sense..it 'tries to hard' to be critical in a fairly aimless way as if it's still effective counter-culture like 'underground comix' was in the 70's..
>_< Which is SO not nearly as effective anymore , given the ubiquity of polemical voices which can find expression on the internet.

..that is something I find more often 'fulfilled' by non-American animation both Japanese and European. Thus far, Disney has historically still been the only one which 'fills that category' b/c of the major production investment when it comes to artistic integrity even more so than Warner Bros. did w/the Looney Tunes who arguably have the more major influence as far as what could character design and 'acting' means (this definitely impacted anime as well).
I crave to see Western action animation develop further. Superheroes are cool but colourful power-fantasies with an unfortunate tendency to wind up becoming fascisized in spite of it's messages can get old after a while. The 'Corto Maltese in Siberia' movie is something non-superhero but action based which I have in mind. State-side I suppose the 80's animated Transformers and G.I. Joe movies might qualify and the recent 'Spider-man into the spider-verse' gives me a bit of hope as to seeing an American action animation movie in theatres again.
'The animatrix' is a nice example.

-Sword Art Online and Accel World (Yes, they should be considered as adult animations, at least in the English dub!)
These aren't adult animation. Their source material and main fanbase are written for/consist of middle and high school kids.
Have you EVEN watched the English dub of those anime?
Yes, I know they have swearing. Sword Art Online was still shown on children's television in Australia. Accel World is officially rated for 13+. Their light novels and manga have been marketed to middle and high schoolers.

While I don't mind the words "hell", "damn", and "crap", I'm NOT very fond of them using words that start with 'S' and 'F' in those anime, and I REALLY don't believe it's necessary for any character to do that. Therefore, IMHO, it can not and WILL NOT, deserve a TV-PG rating.
Seriously, either make the language TV-PG or TV-14 IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE!! !! NOT have certain words said in a few/some episodes! NOTHING in between!

Seeing the responses in this thread, is it fair to say or guess that females 'outgrown' cartoon viewing sooner than males?.

If the most they do in the anime is say swear words then why would it be rated higher than 14? Those two swears don't make something even close to adult. Really?
