The upcoming biopic about Robert Ripley {as in Believe it or Not} which will star Jim Carrey or Johnny Depp & will be directed by Tim Burton.

John Logan and John August are working on a rewrite.

...and "El Topo."

I own a bootleg of that one. Great movie about the cyclical nature of life, and easily my favorite western (because I hate westerns).

Ah, since I'm also fortunate enough to own the rare subtitled bootleg of Turkish Star Wars ("The Man Who Saves The Earth"), it was remiss of me not to mention it. The very existence of that movie is just odd on so many levels. I used to assume that it was a reflection of how nonsensical many American scifi/action films seem in foreign countries, but I've since heard of turks being equally baffled as to what the producers were thinking.

I just watched Dead or Alive too. That one's strange becouse of the disjointed tone of the beginning, middle, and last 2 minutes

Oh, and my favorite french film, Weekend.

A lot of people deride it as pretentious and dated, but I think Godard layed out an oddly prophetic vision of internet culture, what with everyone being off in their own private world, spouting some philosophy despite no one else listening. Impressive for 1967.

It always makes me nostalgic for the big family road trips I had when I was little. So do the MST3K classics Manos and Red Zone Cuba. Weird.

It convinces you that the collapse of society could have been SO COOL if only it had happend during the '60s. But alas, it didn't. And I wasn't born for another decade anyway. So I shall fight to preserve society until our wars are routinely fought with giant mecha. That's the only way a total societal collapse could be anywhere near as cool.

Almost.

Battle of the Worlds (Pianeta degli uomini spenti, Il) starring Claude Raines. Sucked like a shop vac.

However, David Lynch rules. :D

If you think that is a weird movie then you have been deprived of true weirdness. Don't get me wrong, I love Tim Burton, but he is mainstream weird.

True weirdness are many of the movies already mentioned such as El Topo or Eraserhead. I'm not sure where to start listing weird movies, so I'm not going to try. I have seen lots. I search them out.

Couldn't agree more. Do you have any guides you could recommend? I mentioned VideoHound's Cult Flicks and Trash Pics, even though half of it is mainstream as well.

Gotta be "the 5,000 Fingers of Dr. Terwilliker", a 1953 live-action film by Dr. Seuss.

Here's the teaser trailer.

And here's the exquisite scene in the elevator, on the way to the dungeon.

I recently bought an Asian short film trilogy called '3 Extremes'. It comes with a full length feature titled
Dumplings. It's by a horror director from Hong Kong.

Here's a 4 minute clip from the beginning (warning: explicit even though the movie itself is unrated in the US-it's in Mandarin Chinese but worth the watch)

In the first disc there are three short films: Dumplings, Cut and Box. Those were okay. Anyway, it was very shocking the first time I saw the whole Dumplings film. It's disturbing and very unsettling at first. Now I warn you, DO NOT rent or buy if you don't have a strong stomach.

I got a French (at least I think it's French) poster of it:

Usually, an unrated movie in the U.S. is very similar to an NC-17 movie in terms of content.
