So far, the only realistic (though argueable) depiction of Aspergers I've seen on celluloid would be a movie called
"Little Voice" starring Jane Horricks, about a girl with an amazing singing voice but who is shy and reclusive and obsessed with her decessed father's record collection. I may be wrong but it did feel very much like the title character was an Aspie.

Also, a question:

Would Forrest Gump be considered a movie about autsism?

Well I have an idea for a film in which there's a Rappahannock Indian and Caucasian males with AS try to earn federal recognition.

In other words, its more like human recognition according to my Native Americans in Film professor.

Has got to be "A Beautiful Mind". It very deftly captures John Nash's genius and struggles to fit into NT society. Nothing else I've seen has ever come close

This Movie has nothing to do with Autism. I saw the movie over and over again for my Psychology class. I also had a test on the movie and had to do a report on the movie. We also watched the show done on the guy that the movie is based on. The guy himself tells all about his disorder in the show he did on his disorder. He is schizophrenic. He doesn't have any type of Autism at all. I aced my Psychology class with an A and that report I did on this movie and the guy who it was based on put me over the top with my grade.

Rain Man

People who say he's a poor depiction of someone with Autism don't know what the hell they're talking about. He's prototypical HFA (the aloof variant)

Mercury Rising

Simon actually has HFA, not LFA (however, Lorna Wing sees him as AS, and she's the person who defined AS what it is today)

I haven't seen it, but the movie "The Black Balloon" depicts someone with LFA

I saw "Rain Man" at a theater years ago. I didn't care much for it.

Anyone seen this Dutch movie "Ben X"?
Going to check it out.

Nobody's mentioned Forrest Gump (1994).

Although not a classic autism movie, it has to be one of my favourite portrayals of autism of all time. Forrest displays so many of the characteristics that I'd be damned if he wasn't at least mild Asperger's.

I, too, enjoyed Rain Man (1988)
and quote it, on a daily basis :)

It's about the different ways people learn not Aspergers specifically. It's about a boy who's very creative but can't seem to connect with the people around him. A substitute teacher finally makes a connection and brings the boy to life and enlightens everyone to his wonderful gifts.

and it's a musical!

(note: this clip is the turning point and strangest part of the movie )

It's also a Bollywood film so not in English but there are subtitled versions available.

This one was not mentioned, but I am currently watching i am sam. The title character was described as having autistic tendencies, and it shows. He is very similar to rain man. At the start, he shows he has memorized several customers Starbucks orders.
