There is also strong support on WP that Poirot is Aspie.

Personally I'm not going to assert either way, but I would say that is a distinct possibility.

Have you heard about any of the upcoming Poirot movies? Apparently Mrs. McGuinty's Dead was supposed to be released this month. (It's been almost 2 years since the last one, I'm excited. :) )

I voted for Sherlock Holmes because I love the books of Sir A. Conan Doyle.

Another one who is not in the list (and who would be my second favorite) is Conan Edogawa/Shin'ichi Kudo from the anime series Detective Conan (Case Closed depending on where you're living).

Columbo would be my third favorite.

It never occurred to me that Batman could be considered a detective but, oh well...

Is there really any doubt as to who is "the best"? Holmes obviously, he isn't the most fameous for nothing.

Batman is definately cool and one of my most favourite heros. But I have never really thought of him much in terms of his detective skills but am more drawn to his dark side. L i have never heard of but will difinately look him up.Hands down my most favourite detective would be Holmes. His ability to solve the crime is already 80% complete at his initial inspection of the scene..I would really love to see a modernised version of holmes in todays world(csi style) with a female Watson as a possible professonal / romantic intrest almost x files type relationship, I think that would be quite cool to see

I chose L, he has many eccentricies from eating sweets to crouching instead of sitting, his reasons are that sitting normaly would decrease his detective skills by a percentage, and that the brain uses up the most energy. He infact basicaly is pretty sure he has figured out the culprit quite easily, with very limited evidence and actualy spends a bulk of the time trying to get evidence and figure out something most would find to be impossible. He might at times look a bit like a foolish person who has no idea what he is doing, but behind that odd all lies a true geneous. Plus his not only the best detective in the world, but also the second and third and an expert in many fields including tennis and fighting.
