2010 The Year We Make Contact
I've not seen this for years, and tbh I was thinking it was going to be quite poor. But it was actually reasonably enjoyable and contained some of the atmosphere of 2001. Worth watching, for the sake of completion.

Life of Pi

I adore the book, and I adore the work (well most of the work) of Ang Lee--so I was optimistic, and my optimism was repaid handsomely.

The conclusion of the film must, necessarily, be less ambiguous than the novel. But it is no less satisfying for that.

This is likely the best film that I have seen since Tree of Life.

In my biology class today, we watched a documentary called The 11th Hour, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Overtly long, and the information presented in this was nothing more than rehashed information presented
in An Inconvinient Truth, which was released about a year before The 11th Hour.

"The Dark Knight Rises". Very entertaining. I like all three of the films and am not sure which works best for me. The thing I really like about Nolan's interpretation of the batman films is he injects realistic motivations (albeit exaggerated) into the characters. I rarely enjoy big action films, but his films usually keep me interested from beginning to end.

"War witch"

War Witch IMDB link

A 12 year old girl is abducted and trained as a child soldier somewhere in Africa. She is believed to be a witch because she can see enemy soldiers in the jungle. She escapes with a boy and marries him, but her commander finds her and kills her husband. Pregnant, she eventually kills the commander and escapes, returning home to bury her parents.

Despite the content, I would say this film is rather understated. It is quite moving. I watched the film because we had a screener of it at work and I didn't expect to be that interested in it, but the film is well paced and my mind didn't wander as it usually does when I try to watch a film.

I definitely recommend this one, although it ain't exactly a feel-good movie. The chemistry between the girl and her husband is very good. This makes the action all the more tragic as I really hoped they could escape the war and just be happy together.

Anyway, it's one of those films that makes me realize that my first world problems are nothing.

Miracle on 34th Street

The famous Christmas movie in which a department store Santa claims to be the real Santa. Starring a very young Natalie Wood.

Big Bad Wolf.
Decent enough horror movie with a talking werewolf, and disembowelments.

And...

Species III: Awakenings
.
It didn't even live up to Species II, which was terrible!

just watched from Netflix dvd: Devil Inside and Black Swan

good ending on Devil Inside. i gave it a 4 out of 5.
didn't even finish Black Swan. too confusing and too many wtf moments. i gave it a 3 out of 5...only for the daring acting of the actors/actresses...

Yesterday, I went to go see Silver Linings Playbook, the new movie written and directed by David O. Russell.

I was smiling the entire time, not because the movie was excellent, that's one reason. I felt lots of empathy for Patrick, the main character. His personality is a lot like mine and all he wants to do is get his life back on track & reunite with his wife, although everybody else tries to drag him back down.

The relationship Patrick develops with Tiffany is a brother/sister relationship that in many ways is similar to the father/daughter relationship between the two lead characters from Lost in Translation, Bob and Charlotte.

Overall, terrific movie with brilliant performances from Bradley Cooper, who plays Patrick, and Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Tiffany.

I don't think I understood a damn thing about it, but it was excellent.
