Amadeus

A well-made movie about the story of Mozart, told in flashback by Antonio Salieri.

[quote="OneStepBeyond"]Get Him to The Greek

It made me laugh out loud in parts, which is rare. And seemed kinda less polished(?) than most hollywood stuff, which was refreshing. /quote]

I have the same opinion about it. I loved the movie, too. I´ve seen much better movies, but this one was helluva entertaining and quality.

I also liked Tropic thunder. I literally nearly laughed my ass off in the cinema. Even the fake trailers before the movie were awesome! And the best part was Simple Jack: "You mah-mah-mah-make me ha-a-a-a-a-ppy!"

"Dark Horse" by Todd Solondz - really funny in a really dark and unpleasant way. This is the first film I've liked by this guy since "Happiness"

"Smashed" a film about alcoholism. Too "on the nose". It's like they studied the book on how to tell a story about alcoholism. The acting is very good and the characters are appealing. I think there are a lot of very honest things here and yet if feels like it isn't really completely honest.

I went and saw the first of The Hobbit movies this evening. It was excellent. I'm still worried the second and third ones are going to be thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. But I hope that my worries are all for naught and they turn out excellent like the first part did.

Black Swan

Ballet movie with Natalie Portman playing a young dancer who loses touch with reality.

Men in Black 3

Terrific late sequel! It was a lot better than I thought. Josh Brolin did a great job channeling Tommy Lee Jones as a young K!

My wife and I just rewatched Drive, which we own on DVD.
Best movie about Asperger's, even though the word Asperger's is never uttered.

Yesterday, I took a bus to Seattle and watched two movies while I was there.

Deadfall - which was lame.

The Central Park Five - which was an excellent (but extremely disturbing) documentary.

"Leviathan" I think this is supposed to be a documentary. Actually what it is is a series of extended shots of the activities on a couple of commercial fishing boats. There are shots of nets being pulled in, fish dumped onto th deck, people chopping and gutting the fish. Later there are shots of harvesting scallops and the processing of that catch. At one point there is a shot of one of the boat captains watching TV and falling asleep. You won't see that though, because you'll have fallen asleep long before you get to that scene. There is no narration, no on screen text. No linear progression of shots that provides context or story. It seems like the film makers shot a load of footage, strung it together and called it a film. Some of the laziest film making I have ever seen.

"Bernie" with Jack Black and Shirley McLain. A well liked mortician murders the most hated woman in town and the townsfolk rally to his support. Very entertaining and likable film. I normally don't like Jack Black, but he is very good here.

"Compliance" the story is based off a true incident where someone called fast food restaurants posing as a cop and talked the managers into strip searching and more or less raping employees. The film is one slow motion emotional rape. Very disturbing to watch. It's hard for me to believe people would follow instructions from a cop on the phone for as long as they do in this film, but then again, it's pretty impressive what some scammers get away with using social engineering.

"Electrick Children" a 15 year old Mormon girl thinks she has been impregnated by god while listing to a rock and roll song. She and her step brother leave their isolated home looking for the singer from the tape. Many unbelievable coincidences and events occur. All ends improbably well.

The Apparition.
As a horror film, it had it's scares.
