"The Artist" A likeable film. Nothing deep, but it is neat to see someone experimenting with telling a story without dialog. One of the problems of silent films is that it is rather difficult to express complex ideas or show complex interaction without some use of words. But this film uses what silent film making is good at; telling a simple story with faces and bodies.

Snakes on a Plane

Title is self-explanatory. Hundreds of snake are released on a plane to kill a trial witness.

"The Baader Meinhof Complex" - a reasonably well made film about a group of German terrorists. When all is said and done, I'm not sure that the film makers took one side or another. The terrorists come across as undisciplined and too overwhelmed by their own egos to successfully carry out any real social or governmental change. This film is similar to "Carlos" and covers some of the same incidents.

I think "Battle of Algeirs" is a far better film in that it treats both sides more fairly, but still manages to have a strong impact. In general I really don't enjoy highly political films so I'm not sure why I keep watching them. Anyway, if you enjoy this kind of thing, this is a tightly paced, interesting film.

"Sleepwalk With Me" - a mildly fictionalized filmed version of Mike Birbiglia's problems with his relationship and sleep disorders. Entertaining and amusing, but frankly I think I enjoyed the audio only version on "This American Life" more.

The Intouchables (2011) - French film with subtitles, quadriplegic that just wanted someone in his life to feel real for a change, instead of pity all the time. Another great movie and I will watch it again sometime.
The Players (2012) - French film, this thread pretty much explains what one should expect to see in this movie - http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt220996.html Not my taste and not something I will ever want to watch again.

Seasons 1 and 2 of "Downton Abby" - not really a film, but I'll put it here anyway. A decent soap opera with high production value. Entertaining fluf.

I don't why fans of Downton Abbey think of Downton Abbey as a great show. It's a stereotypical soap opera about a rich, aristocratic family who bicker at each other all the time. Even though I'm a fan of Masterpiece Theater, I try to avoid watching Downton Abbey. It's one of the overrated shows currently on TV, it's boring, and it's very cheesy.

Letters from Iwo Jima

War film directed by Clint Eastwood about the Battle of Iwo Jima from the point of view of the Japanese. It is also a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, also directed by Clint Eastwood.

"Journey to the Seventh Planet" - this film makes a lot of cheesey sci-fi movies look good. Five astronauts travel to Uranus. A telepathic space brain reads their thoughts and creates environments and women out of their memories. They hunt it down and kill it. It's kind of like "Solaris" on stupid pills. The film is worth watching for the utter cheesiness of the song over the end credits.

"Compliance" the story is based off a true incident where someone called fast food restaurants posing as a cop and talked the managers into strip searching and more or less raping employees. The film is one slow motion emotional rape. Very disturbing to watch. It's hard for me to believe people would follow instructions from a cop on the phone for as long as they do in this film, but then again, it's pretty impressive what some scammers get away with using social engineering.
I saw this movie.

I thought that it was implausible. I was going to stop watching until I found out that it had really happened.

When I first started watching the movie I didn't know what it was about. When the caller called I immediately thought that it didn't sound like things that a police officer would say, and my thought was that I would say something that would test whether he was telling the truth, by doing things like asking him questions about people who didn't exist, or asking him questions about things that didn't actually exist in the restaurant or events that didn't happen.

Full Metal Jacket. I had never actually seen it before, the first half is definitely the best part of the movie though despite being pretty f****d up.
