Lincoln (2012) - better than the Lincoln fighting vampires movie :)

I absolutely agree with you, Stalk. :)
My fingers are crossed that Daniel-Day Lewis wins Best Actor
and Steven Spielberg wins Best Director on February 24th at the Oscars.

IMOO, could Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have been a much better movie had the studio given screenwriting duties to another, more experienced screenwriter? It's hard to determine that, even if an early draft of the script ends up on the Internet.

Lincoln.
My wife and I just got back from seeing it for Valentine's Day.
The best movie I've seen in a very long time! A spectacular, very human look at our greatest president.

Casino Royale was a terrific Bond movie, if not the best Bond movie since Dr. No.

Quantum of Solace was not a bad Bond movie, yet it was OK. IMOO, it wasn't the disaster many said it was, but there were certain factors in Quantum of Solace that weren't necessary.

Last night/early this morning, we watched The Amazing Spiderman, which I had gotten for my wife for Valentine's Day. I liked it better the second time around, but I wish they would have left the outtakes in, as they showed Dr. Conners interacting with his young son.
This afternoon, we watched God Bless America, which my wife had gotten for me, also for Valentine's Day. Very black comedy which I enjoyed immensely.

2 nights ago I saw Wreck-It Ralph. I found it very enjoyable. Very adorable and loved all the hidden video game references.
Last night I saw Skyfall. Perfect movie for a single guy on Valentine's Day.
Tonight I will be watching Argo. I hear Ben Affleck is a good director. I haven't seen any other movie he's directed. Hopefully he won't let me down on this one.

WRECK-IT RALPH SPOILERS: Ye be warned!

The romance between Felix and Sgt. Calhoun felt rushed and shoehorned in Was it really necessary to have the toughest woman ever in a Disney movie get married so soon? Or even at all? Can't tell if it was because they wanted romance for the sake of romance or to avoid suspicions of lesbianism in a character who is voiced by a RL lesbian... Maybe a little of both?

I think it was for the sake of a love interest. I read somewhere that the director wanted a love interest for Felix. At the time, Calhoun was a male but the director felt it made Calhoun cliche and boring. So they changed Calhoun to female and she made a logical choice as a love interest for Felix. The wedding, I think, was just to bring closure to her story arc, which was probably already part of the story when Calhoun was still male.

Death Note

Surprisingly well-done for an anime-to-live-action adaptation. Looking forward to watching the next installment, Death Note II: The Last Name, as well as L: Change the WorLd.

Mark of the Vampire (1935)

One of several pseudo-sequels to the 1931 Dracula in which Bela Lugosi plays the famous vampire under a different name because it was at a different studio and they didn't have the rights to the character. (See also The Return of the Vampire.) This one has a twist ending in which he turns out to be simply an actor playing a vampire to trick a murderer into confessing, rather than the real thing. It's not bad but it's nothing too special.

The Mask of Fu Manchu (1932)

The Fu Manchu books are sort of a bridge between Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, and they're very entertaining despite their silly racial stereotypes. The films are mostly garbage, but this is one of the exceptions. I'd much rather watch Boris Karloff play an intelligent and over-the-top villain like he does here than watch his grunting idiot of a Frankenstein's monster, and the film is very well-made overall.

The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu (1929)

About as slow and creaky as you'd expect from a movie from 1929, but it's not too bad. It's interesting that it relies on racist stereotypes like most Fu Manchu movies, but actually gives the villain a good motive and tries to get the audience to sympathize with him.
