Strangers On A Train.

Hitchcock film about Guy, a tennis player trying to escape a troubled marriage, while on a train meets nutbar rich kid Bruno, who wants to be rid of his overbearing father. Bruno suggests a plan where neither could be suspected of murdering their tormentors - switch murders. Thinking Bruno is just a whack job, he exits the train without another thought. But that changes when Bruno actually kills Guy's wife, then tries to coerce Guy into killing his father. The dialogue is a bit dated, especially regarding police work, but still a very satisfactory movie.

^ Read the book sometime. Like most Patricia Highsmith adaptations, the film is seriously watered down. Great performances, though.

Blue Velvet.

Re watched my favorite David Lynch movie. Lynch has said the town of Lumberton - where the movie was set - was based on my own Spokane Washington, where Lynch had grown up.
Dean Stockwell's most bizarre performance is reason for watching the movie alone.

First time I've seen this movie since I was in college. Good as I remember it.

Battle Royale--sort of a Japanese version of Hunger Games. It was interesting and a bit bizarre in the way Japanese movies usually are.

World War Z

Though the airplane sequence was well-done and a good performance from Brad Pitt, this was not worth seeing in theaters. Some parts of the movie were laughable and the original ending is described on the Internet.

Read the book first, then wait until World War Z is released on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Robin Hood (1922)

I'm not one of those people who go looking for gay subtext in movies, but it's kind of hard to ignore in Robin Hood. The opening scenes here are pretty hilarious, with a rather foppish Robin running away in absolute terror from every woman he sees. He just wants to get away from these horrible women and go join a bunch of men in the Crusades, right after kissing the phallic sword that represents his devotion to his king.

And then, a few scenes later, he's sniffing Maid Marian's clothes like a pervert. Who knew?

It's not a bad movie at all, but it's way too long. I've never seen a silent film that needed to be longer than 80 minutes, and this one is 143. That's three minutes longer than the Russell Crowe version, and at least that movie had the excuse of having a much more intricate plot. I had to watch this behemoth of a movie in small bursts over four days, like episodes of a TV show. It's just too goddamned much.

You make it seem interesting enough to watch!

^ You can find it on YouTube and Archive.org since it's in the public domain.

Just bring some coffee. It's like an endurance test.

The Last Exorcism Part II.

Mediocre sequel to a very good horror film. This time around, it lacks the "found footage" look of the original.

Transformers

The first of Michael Bay's film series about the franchise. Great on special effects.

Shame about the sequels though.
