I haven't watched Discovery, apart from 1 episode.
Star Trek, the original, is very dated, imo.
My favourite franchise is Voyager.

What do you guys think of Discovery?

I have enjoyed watching it so far....so well do any of you guys have thoughts on the new show? LOl I was wonderinng how they were going to work out that spok had an adopted sister but I guess they took care of that by signing everyone who knew the crew into secrecy before they made the jump to the future. So that as far as records they never exited, but they get blasted into the future so how will they handle that.

Like Pepe, I also haven't watched Discovery. I'm warming up to the idea because of the TNG crew's involvement, and their praises. But I have been reluctant because of how they changed the Klingons, and just generally fear that other things wouldn't hold up to the true Star Trek tone. I may give it a try soon.

I definitely prefer the next generation series (TNG, VOY, DS9, ENT) over the original series. Though I have seen all of TOG and appreciate it how revolutionary it was for that time, it isn't one of the ones I chose to watch repeatedly.

I struggle to decide which is my favorite. Probably TNG with VOY being a close second. DS9 has some great episodes, but I hate the last season, some of the main characters get annoying at times, and Kai Winn is too good of a villian because I hate her so much  . I haven't rewatched ENT quite as much, and the theme song is cheesy, but I really like the characters.

Kai Winn. Brrrr.
Damn, I hate that character, not because she is a villain, but because of the involvement of the religious theme. :eew:
This is why I don't like the Sisco character, either.

RE: ENT.
Nope.
Archer's characterisation was so stilted.
I don't think Count Bakula was a great choice.
But T'Pol was fantastic eye-candy, however.
Yes, I know. I am being a typical male.

Personally speaking, I think the writers for Voyager did a better job than TNG.
I also like the "Lost in Space" context.

Yes I dislike all of the religious stuff in DS9. A lot of the people like Winn were absolutely batsh*t nuts. I didn't think the Bajorans were stable enough to join the Federation at that stage of their development. They reminded me too much of 21st century humans. And I wish they hadn't converted Sisko in the end. I think DS9 may have the most humorous moments/episodes, so that redeems it for me.

My favorite ENT character was Dr Phlox, and probably Porthos. I liked T'Pol and Tucker too.
okay I also liked them as a couple  because sometimes I'm mushy and lame :eew:
. Captain Archer was a bit of a straight and narrow character that perhaps could have been made more unique, but overall I liked him as a captain.

Who's everyone's favorite captain? I lean towards Picard. Janeway would be second. Admittedly it's probably because I relate most to Picard.

You have similar tastes to me. My favorites are Picard, Janeway, and the original Philippa Georgiou from Discovery (anyone who's seen all of season 1 knows what I mean). I think Picard's show is the one currently on that's the most like the 90s series. I have fewer problems with it than I have with Discovery.

Yes I think the new Picard series felt true to the Trek spirit.

Another question for you and everyone else:
From all of the series, who would be your favorite:
-Doctor
-Chief of security
-Chief engineer
-First Officer

I don't think about these as much. Spock for first officer. Tuvok for security chief, though Tasha Yar may have gotten there if she'd lived longer. The other two are really hard. I don't have a quick answer there. Data doesn't fit any of these categories but he might be my favorite character of any series.

I forgot about Deep Space Nine while I was answering this, probably because it has a different structure. Odo and Bashir are pretty high on the list for their respective positions.

We can add favorite 2nd officer to the list :) for you to have Data. I also consider him one of my favorites.

-Doctor: The Doctor (VOY)
-Chief of security: Worf (TNG)
-Chief engineer: B'Elanna (VOY)
-First Officer: Chakotay (VOY) or Riker (TNG)
-Second Officer: Data (TNG)

Oh yes she's very good at facial expressions from my point of view. I like when she looks empathic, and annoyed  .

Am not steeped in all of these Star Trek variants and premutations.

I watched the original Sixties series (Kirk), and the movies (also the Kirk crew), and the Next Generation (Picard).

Like all three. America BBC will run all day Second Generation marathons, and they are quite good to dip into and out of.
