Transformers

The first of Michael Bay's film series about the franchise. Great on special effects.

Shame about the sequels though.

So I hear, but I'm going to watch them anyway.

Castle in the Sky. Brilliant adventure film, as good as Spirited Away in my opinion. And Mark Hamill voices the bad guy, Tusca I think his name is.

Skyfall

The 23rd Bond film sees 007 (Daniel Craig) missing and presumed dead after a botched mission in Istanbul. He soon returns to discover a shadowy face from M's past is out for revenge. The culprit is revealed to be former MI6 agent Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), who has turned to cyberterrorism in order to bring about M's downfall.

An absolute belter of a Bond film, with a scene stealing Bardem and an explosive finale during the shoot out in Scotland. Roll on Bond 24.

Transamerica.

A transexual woman, just before her gender reassignment surgery, learns she has a son from her days as a man. Posing as a church worker, she bails him out of jail New York and travels cross country with him back to California. Along the way, he learns she's transexual. When he falls in love with her and wants to have sex, she has no choice but to reveal her true identity to him. Very good movie.

"Safety Last" with Harold Lloyd. Not quite what I was expecting, but entertaining and fun. I got a bit distracted at times when I recognized my old apartment building from when i lived in downtown L.A. in the background.

"Life of Pi" pretty good. I was fearing it was going to be a hippy dippy film about a boy and his friend the tiger and I was glad to see it was more complex and interesting than that. But in the end, the film would not have worked without the second story. Unpleasant as it may be, I prefer reality because at least it gives you something real to get a grasp on. But I also think it says something valid about the apeal of religion.

I'm currently watching The Blob - that's the original. Goofy, overly long dialogue, but still a gem.
