Any anime fans?
Anyway, still totally enjoying Moribito, though ack, I'm reaching the series end. Shame that Media Blasters folded, because it was a really well done dub and all too... I wonder if I can pick it up on DVD somewhere...
I wonder if the recently announced Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus is worth looking into when it begins next year... I've not heard of Xebec doing a full-length non-ecchi tv series on their own for a while now...
i'm totally excited for the newest season of fafner. but that's because i'm a super fan. have you seen the movie or any of the series? the art style looks like it will be a little better (lol sameface syndrome...) but i'm a bit nervous on what they'll do with the plot. although it's the only anime i have any merchandise from, i'm not sure i'd recommend it to everyone.
I don't know anything about fafner to be honest with you - sorry. If it was one of those projects that was super popular in the US and/or Australia, then it passed me by. Only reason I'm looking into it is on a friend's recommendation; I'm not really a huge mecha fan.

Anyway, just watched the first episode of Chaika and I have to say I'm very dissapointed. If not for the fact that I knew BONES were behind it, I'd be very surprised that they were behind such a poor premiere episode.
No world-building, no real character introductions aside from Tohru, Chaika and his sister... not very clear exposition... Stuff was literally happening on screen with the expectation of the audience being familiar with the novel and manga on which the anime is based --- almost as terrible as A Certain Scientific Railgun/ A Certain Magical Index... at least Chronciles of X'amd took the time to set up the environment before things started happening.
I'm really hoping the second episode clarifies a few things before going on... I'm rather concerned that BONES have been in a bit of a 'rely on clichés' rut for a while now (in my personal opinion); Captain Earth, Space Dandy, now Chaika... I hope BONES get it together, they're my favourite anime studio.

What I really liked about that was the twist to their personalities of hidden depth that some people think it is not their at first.
The ED song of Beyond The Boundary is also absolutly beautiful.

More current with me, the unthinkable has happened, I watched the first episode of a BL anime (Love Stage) and enjoyed it, feels like there are an unusually large amount of shows for female audience this season, and actually first episodes have not been that bad.

Just watched the first episode of Terror in Resonance (Zankyou no Terror), and was completely blown away within the first 10 minutes.
Truly eye-wateringly fantastic animation, great colour and camera-work, an engaging soundtack and a truly wonderful opening. THIS is what makes me fall in love with anime:

Am so glad there's something for me to look forward to this summer.

It does look good. I made a comment that it feels kind of like what you get from the more artsy stuff kind of like Flowers of Evil, but the animation feels much nicer and generally feels really well paced.

Well, it was originally Zankyou no Terror's story that got my attention (hard to believe this is from the same man who's penned Space Dandy, but it is Shinichiro Watanabe's work). But the art and animation sealed it for me. As long as something either has an engaging plot, and/or it's well animated for the genre it is, then I'll watch it. Contrary to most people, I really enjoyed Flowers of Evil, but I can understand why most people would be turned off by it. I guess because I graduated in art, I like being visually entertained/challenged than be bored rigid by the likes of Rail Wars... urgh... anyway, each to their own - t'was just putting out my own opinion.

Thanks very much for the confirmation on when Akame ga Kill airs; I'd stupidly forgotten to take note of the air date in the first place. I knew I had forgotten to watch something this week...

Oh, I already knew about Akame ga Kill thanks to your mentioning it, and my curiousity about what White Fox (animation studio) were going to do with it. I just didn't know when it aired -- seems like after 2 and bit months of nothing, suddenly there's a lot of stuff that I can watch. I'm still making my mind up as to whether to commit to it or not.
Just watched the second episode of Akame ga Kill.
Still on the fence about it as it seems to be an episode of two halves. Whilst it was nice they showed Tatsumi settling down into the Night Raid, it felt a wee bit fast. Literally his friends got a passing mention in the first two minutes, and then poof, boobs. I was quite dissapointed to see so much fanservice crammed into ten minutes... I'm also very disappointed to hear Yukari Tamura revert back to a whinier Tenten (Naruto/Naruto Shippuden) voice for Mine (though I suppose that fits with Mine's cliche tsundere personality.
That said, the second half of the episode felt a lot better and we got to see Tatsumi in action on his own, and a little bit more of Akame's caring side. Some of the jokes are quite good actually, and well-timed as expected of White Fox. But it all feels a little... safe and predictable at the same time. Maybe I'm expecting too much from what is essentially just a straight-up adaptation of a typical shounen manga.
I'm rather apprehensive about episode three as it focuses purely on Tatsumi training with Mine, and the preview showed already a by-the-numbers 'caught the girl as she's in the middle of getting changed leading to an over-the-top beatdown' scene. Hopefully Mine will be fleshed out, so at least she won't be as one-dimensional as she initially appears to be.
I want to like Akame ga Kill, and when the show focuses on the plot and world-building, it's very watchable - especially with the animation for the fight scenes. Guess we'll see where it goes.

cool btw, i highly suggest committing to watching it if it follows the story of the manga properly. It's Really good. well... if you are ok with gore, fanservice, political pricks and transformers.

If you want my opinion on what is good so far, it would be:
Barakamon is incredibly funny, with themes of small village and precocious child. It has been so enjoyable so far that I have been getting scared that I am going to end up disappointed.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is apparently a shounen, but is more of a shoujo and actually so entertaining or funny that it should be great for either gender, pretty much messes with a bunch of old clichés. The heroine is safe from the usual problem of lack of personality, and in fact her reactions are one of the best parts of the show.

Sagebu! is about girls playing airsoft, but is far wackier than it appears, it will lul you into thinking that is doing the normal type of thing and then go somewhere you did not expect, the heroine would be a villain in anything else.

To be honest with you, I'm far more interested in the characterisation and where the plot decides to go. I don't mind gore or ... what you call 'transformers' (I'm guessing you're referring to Leone?). And I don't mind politics at all (unless it gets too dry ala Spice and Wolf). I'm just more concerned about the fanservice levels --- I really don't want to be made to feel like I'm watching something that would be more at home with Studio DEEN, Dogakobo or Arms Corp, where everything goes out the window due to keeping up a fanservice quota... I go out of my way to avoid that sort of thing because I really don't like it (increasingly difficult due to how much has snuck into current/ongoing anime the past two seasons).
So yeah, fingers crossed.

Actually, Gangan Comics, in which Gekkan Shoujou Nozaki-kun appears, is a non-gender-specific publication -- so it's pretty much aimed at anybody. Fullmetal Alchemist appeared in there originally.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up. With the exception of Sabagebu, I'll check 'em out.
