Doctor Who: The Claws Of Axos

Originally transmitted on UK television in March 1971. The more of this stuff I watch, the more mystifying it seems that a large proportion of the nation's population was glued to the TV screen early on Saturday evenings (at around 6 pm, as I recall) watching this dreadful rubbish. Generic plots, awful cheap special effects and props, indifferent acting, etc, etc. Maybe it was, and still is, a 'cult classic' because it was 'so bad that it was good'? That's the nearest I can get to explaining it, lol.

Thank goodness for Roger Delgado as 'The Master', the one interesting and charismatic character in the show at the time.

Doctor Who: The Aztecs (1964)

Featuring the first Doctor, played by William Hartnell. The actor was 56 at the time, but looks closer to 70 here. He's even referred to as 'the old man' by some of the characters in the screenplay. Just two years later, Hartnell had to give up the role, as he couldn't remember his lines.

The plot revolves around the Tardis landing in the Aztec civilization in 15th Century Mexico, and there are one or two interesting ideas, but the whole thing is very outdated with wooden acting, very basic, unconvincing sets and nonexistent special effects.
