Spock. I really like Spock.

I keep seeing people say Data, but I have only seen the original series. I haven't seen Data before.

Data is one of the fictional characters that I identify with most in any series. I absolutely see myself in him and I see the struggle to 'be more human' that I strive for in his actions. Some of his actions are near identical to mine - and I think that both his behaviours, friendships and the mistakes he makes are something that I feel connected to.

I identified with Spock (and the Vulcans in general) for a long while, but honestly I think the difference between Data's and Spock's approach at 'being human' is what separates them for me. Spock tries to pretend that he is not human, refusing to embrace that side of him, trying to push himself to be 100 percent emotionless and Vulcan (at least up to a point - appx. Wrath of Khan I'm thinking). Even in the episode of TNG where he meets Data he speaks on the subject of his humanness and the differences between Data and his struggle. That was the point where I realized how much more I associate with Data than Spock.

Data on the other hand wants more than anything to be human. He tries to embrace a part of him that really doesn't exist when he starts out - striving to socialize and to get his actions right. This struggle is something I go through as well - and the mistakes he makes are often my own mistakes. In that way, I think that I absolutely identify with Data.

Yes, yes, there are still some of my personality traits which I could easily compare to Spock - my expression (or lack there of in most cases) of emotions would likely be the reason why a lot of friends who are not familiar to TNG compare me to him...but I think that Data would be my choice 100 percent of the time.

I do identify with 7 if 9 to a degree and with The Doctor on occasion (though his personality often time is so starkly opposite mine I couldn't in good conscious put him very high on the list). Personality wise I do think I have a somewhat similar personality to Captain Picard as well, though my identification with his struggles aren't very high at all.

/sorry for the rambling. and any aspie trekkies out there feel free to mail me - I don't have many trekkie friends irl - or sci-fi friends in general!/

Data FTW observing human behavior and trying futilely to understand.

I guess......7 of 9 and Reed.
Basically, because when I was a kid my family would call me "7 of 9" and I didn't like that at all (I was offended). I thought she was a very unlikeable character and I was horrified by the thought that I had the same effect on people in my surrounding environment as this fictional character had on me. After a lot of years of constant introspection I came to the conclusion that I really do appear like that often enough...to other people. Instead of contemplating this, I came to understand those kind of constructed characters more and more and acknowledge my own strenghths and weaknesses (although the latter part is not tied to the first but the first part is tied to the last part of the sentence).
Anyway, 7 of 9 is practical, logical, seems emotionless and more technical at times. And Reed, he is stoic, taciturn and committed to his work and those are things I can relate to, as well.

Like sillycat and Kraichgauer, I identify most with Worf... though I can't give such an elaborate reasoning behind my pick as they have given. Part of it, I guess, is that Worf could be quick to anger sometimes. He also liked to brawl, and I liked to brawl when I was a kid.

I never really identified with Data... Spock... 7 of 9, the Doctor, all those characters who had trouble with or were learning about human emotions. I was always far too much of an emotional child to be drawn to those characters to such an extent. That being said, I did love Data. But I was pretty much in love with the entire cast of TNG, I never really played favourites. I liked Data, Worf, Riker, LaForge, all of them equally. Even Wesley! :P

Then there is that - Worf likes to kick ass! Yet another reason why I always thought him so cool. 8)

I quite liked 7 or 9.

7 of 9?
My family liked her, too but I didn't, especially because I didn't want to be associated with her kind of character which isn't a bad character but not an easy one, either.
