Really hard to say, but I think my favourite 10, in no particular order:

1. Black Adder
2. Father Ted
3. The Sopranos
4. The West Wing
5. Black Books
6. The Mighty Boosh
7. Northern Exposure
8. The Office (UK)
9. The Late Show (Aus comedy show about 20 years ago)
10. Arrested Development

actually, the best TV show "ever" can only be estimated after all TV shows in the history of the universe have ceased production. even then, it is still a matter of opinion.

I have a need to list my favorite tv shows but this is the only recent/active thread I could find so I can't list just one:

My favorite TV shows, in no particular order:

Smallville (this is my favorite- a huge fan from the beginning and ready for a trivia challenge)
Eureka
Alphas
Samantha Who?
Always Sunny
Louie (Louis C.K. show- highly recommend it)
Warehouse13 (just getting into it at the recommendation of WP members)
Pushing Daisies (fabulous!)
Reaper (campy but cute)
Dead Like Me
The Dollhouse (not the best acting but cool concept)
Big Bang Theory (I've lost interest but appreciate the humor)
What Not to Wear (kind of a reality or DIY type show but very helpful to me with simplifying my wardrobe)

I actually don't watch a lot of tv anymore but these shows are part of my therapy, so to speak. Not the healthiest coping mechanism but I'm a creative person and apparently, I'm a huge sci-fi geek. I don't know why this seems to be dominated by men, but that's cool. I bet there are more females here like me and that's even cooler. Or geekier, but geeky is sexy. Seriously, better company and conversation.

To me it's indisputably The Wire followed by Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and then Mad Men. After that I'm not really sure what I'd call my favourite, maybe Game of Thrones.

i do not have a favorite TV show.

i subscribe to a "pay TV" service in australia called "foxtel". i have a "foxtel box" that i can program to record whatever i like for later viewing.

it also has a facility where i can choose to record an entire series so i do not have to manually record the shows every time they are on.

i have about 40 hours worth of disk space space in the foxtel box, and it is almost used up, and i am forced to watch things that i have recorded when i do not wish to watch them because the next recording on the agenda can not happen if i do not watch and delete shows before the next shows are due for recording because of lack of disk space.

anyway, the series's i am currently recording and watching are
1.columbo
2. hustle
3. house
4. monk
5. prisoner (yes i know it is crass but i can watch it while lying down)
6. sherlock holmes (granada version with jeremy brett as sherlock)

i wish i could suck all the episodes off the foxtel disk into my own hard drive storage and free up space on the foxtel box and not have to watch them (before i am wanting to) and delete them, but life is very hard.

There are lots of shows I love. However, the best show is the Wire. It was written, produced, acted at such an extremely high level with balls out acting and huge social commentary and most importantly consistency over its entire run unlike lots of shows like X-Files which petered out so badly or Buffy which had some bad spots even with high points.
