I wasn't offended. I just didn't find it very funny. and I love South Park. It just wasn't one of their funnier episodes.

...ummm... it's South Park... in order to 'get it wrong' they would have needed to have some intention to 'get it right'.

South Park has proven to be pretty clear in its intent. There is nothing sacred. They attack everyone and everything they touch with the same sort of irreverance and crude humor. Asperger's is not special in that respect. The Catholic Church has taken a mighty beating at the hands of Matt and Trey as did their poorly considered episodes on Allah. The cows don't get much more sacred than that. These guys poke the hornets nest for a reason. I just can't get all butthurt over Matt and Trey's diversion of the day. At some point - they will run out of people to insult.

Did I find the episode funny... I didn't bother to watch the whole thing. Their schtick has gotten predictable and passe for my less than refined tastes. While I did find the Matrix parallel somewhat amusing it wasn't enough to keep me interested.

Their episodes on Allah were very well-considered indeed. It was probably the network that wanted to make them appear ill-considered.

All the episodes on Allah shows is that the 'Islamic' world has a way to go before they can be a nice holiday destination for a pork chop and all the fixins with a massive glass of lager, with a felafel for supper. That day will come, and we will all be happy together. Good luck to the ladies, as misogynistic as I am. ;)

League_Girl: your husband sounds like the sort of person who just loves being offended.

I wasn't offended because it wasn't really about us. It was quite funny in its own way. It made a few jibes at us but nothing we can't easily handle. I loved the bit with the kid in the hospital, spreading his legs blowing bubbles near his ass. ;)

He's a silly guy and he wasn't sure why he was offended either. He guess maybe it was because of me and he didn't like how they were saying vaccines cause AS. He has never been offended by South Park before until this very episode and he only got to the part where the duck was signing Stan's Bill.

I found the South Park episode to be funny. Cartmen literally thinking this disorder made you s**t burgers was hilarious. I don't blame him, so many people can't even pronounce 'Aspergers' without it sounding like Ass Burgers. Strangely, I found Glee's adaption of Aspergers to be more offensive. :/

The show states 'HPV' vaccinations. HPV is also known as Genital Warts not Herpes.

See how easy it is to not have your "facts" straight?

Did everyone not notice the two kids with a very Aspie appearence (disheveled etc.) who overheard Wendy talking to Kyle and then cut right to the chase by saying 'those two should just screw and get it over with'. I thought they were a little nod towards aspies by the makers. Sort of in a aspies cut through the social niceties and get to the point manner.

To be fair, I did the same thing too. HSV is the virus that causes herpes.

Random thread derail but still on Asperger's:

I pronounce Asperger's as Ass-Ber-Jers.

There is no G in my pronunciation.

Yes, actually, I DID notice that, and I was kinda thinking that's what they were supposed to be, but I wasn't entirely sure.

Simonono, as a person who took German for 4 years in highschool and continue to listen to German music and speak the language to this day, I know a German name when I see one. In German there is no J sound. a J is pronounced like an Y like in the word "yo-yo," and a G is pronounced like it is in the word "egg." So your pronunciation is incorrect, just so you know, as it's named after an Austrian man with a German name.

basicly it is being SouthPark, the writers always push it when it comes to this sort of thing or they will toss a word in there and make it stick to anything this and most of the time it will fail.

there main thing is try to do crud humor as far as the FCC will Allow them. some shows are funny and some just wrong. What do you expect out it, it is only a Fiction show.

I may get into trouble for this with some of you, but I'm gonna say it anyway.

To get upset about anything on South Park, is to misunderstand the point of South Park. And, yes, there IS a point to South Park.

South Park is all about how ridiculous society in general has become with regard to political correctness. It's NOT about religion, politics, or anything else more or less specific. It's about the writers exercising freedom of speech for the sake of freedom of speech, and hopefully making people laugh in the process.

It's not about Autism or AS.

Given the inaccuracies of every topic brought up on South Park, why on earth would anyone expect what is said about AS to be accurate? It's not a documentary show.

Additionally, a great deal of the humor on South Park, in fact almost ALL of the humor, is based on the characters near total IGNORANCE of whatever topic they cover. It's satire based on the authors perceived ignorance of those in society who "decide" what is PC.

If ya don't find it funny, don't watch it.

To be honest, I didn't watch the episode and only cared to check out the Wikipedia article because my dad's references to Cartman's Assburgers annoyed me to the point where I looked it up to see what happened. And also I haven't watched South Park or any 2000s animation that lacks any structure or meaning or anything and make you want to punch the bland dumb characters square in the face. And after looking it up in other places(IGN) to collaborate the story, I was worrying that for all the lack of storytelling dimensions, Trey Parker and Matt Stone were right in depicting people with AS as cynical jerks who believe themselves as knowing outside of humanity yet actually don't want to accept the consensus reality that is held in society as sane and correct. That's just what I felt.

I have never watched South Park before, but I watched this episode because of it's title. I was surprised to find it quite intelligent. I think, though, that it was really about depression and Stan's attempt to cope using alcohol. Asperger's seemed only to be mentioned to serve as the butt of the joke.
