I have probably watched game shows since I was a baby. Maybe it's an "autism effect", but I've really enjoyed loads of them. I can remember summer vacation, school breaks and when I was sick, watching The Price is Right with Bob Barker (and since I am 16, I mainly remember Rich Fields and now George Gray as announcers - I was only 5 when Rod Roddy passed away but I remember hearing him when I was young). Loved all of the games especially Punch a Bunch and Plinko, and the Showcase Showdown! Made perfect timing because my mom watched (and still does) Young and the Restless at 11 right after Price is Right.
We also had the PAX Network (remember that? Now it's Ion Television) and they would have Supermarket Sweep at 6PM weeknights. I used to watch it when I was about 4 or 5. Loved when the contestants would run the carts through the store and pick up as many items as they could!
I've probably known the names Pat Sajak and Vanna White as far back as a baby. I still watch Wheel of Fortune and I first remember it around 2001 when they were still using "eggcrate displays" for contestants' scores. I enjoy the bonus round and seeing those happy contestant faces. I can solve puzzles WAY faster than the contestants!
I also remember watching Shop Till You Drop, first with Pat Finn and then with JD Roberto around 2003 or 04. I enjoyed that show as well. GSN now shows the Pat Finn reruns in the afternoons now.
Didn't like Jeopardy and still don't - it's boring and rather tough. Why do I want to know who did something fantastic in Germany in the year 1363?
We got digital cable around 2007-and GSN on top of that. I started loving Press Your Luck and Let's Make a Deal reruns. Both Peter Tomarkan and Monty Hall were great hosts of both shows! Wish I was around to see those old-school 1970s/80s TPIR reruns they used to show in the late 1990s. We also got Nick GAS until they went to the N and then TeenNick in 2008, and I used to watch Legends of the Hidden Temple reruns a lot on there.
I watched Deal or No Deal for a long time as well. I actually used to write down the cash amounts in the cases in each week's episode! (Weird but true. I was 8 or 9.)
Didn't start watching Family Feud until Steve Harvey hosted and even though there's loads of sexual answers in the show now, Harvey is still very funny!
I hardly remember Card Sharks '01 even though I started watching game shows at this time. Then I viewed some episode clips on YouTube years later and now I know how crappy it was...
And maybe not 100% a game show because there were some musical performances here and there, but I really enjoyed a show called "Go For It". It was a kids show that aired on the weekends around 2003, two teams of pre teens playing in competitions and trivia. Used to watch it every Saturday afternoon back when I was in kindergarten. Then after moving here to Yakima, I discovered that same show aired on one of our local stations on the weekends and so it brings back some memories for me!
