I too liked Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Sam Rockwell as Zaphod made me laugh!
He actually was offered the Ford Prefect role, but chose Zaphod.

He was pretty well-cast as Zaphod, but the way the film handled the split heads/personalities thing didn't settle well with me and hindered his performance a little. I think they could have re-written that up a bit. I could definitely see him as Ford, though.

Then again, as stated, I think Sam Rockwell is an extraordinarily gifted actor; he's one of several actors I'd watch in anything, even if the movie itself looked like crap.

I own a copy of the book in which Sam Rockwell {in a Q&A at the end} states that the studio didn't like his approach to playing Zaphod {in which he tried playing Zaphod as a intergalatic version of Bill Clinton}, so he played Zaphod as a more of a narcisstic rock star.

Well, that's more or less how he is in the book, or at least how I picture him. Rockwell's performance is definitely the *goofiest* of any of the character's portrayals, but the character traits of extreme narcissism and extreme charisma are what intrinsically defines Zaphod.

Provided, it's been several years since I've read one of the books (the last one being 'And Another Thing...'), though I did watch the TV series again not long ago. I'll have to give them another go-around sometime this year.

Sounds like 50 Shades of Grey will be like Twilight: Popular, but terrible.

Actually, it was a pretty decent movie - - until that Godawful ending.

I'm pretty sure everyone hates the ending. They should've stuck with the original.

Wasn't the ending changed because that was what a focus group decided it should be?
