I just started watching this and am loving it.

Sheldon as expected is the "stereotypical" Aspie, but still a good character.

BTW The actress who plays Penny was also in 8 Simple Rules as Bridget.

I love the show...particularly some of the Sci fi injokes
and my mother tells me she watches it as an instruction guide for how to deal with me...I did point out, unlike Sheldon, i am female and do biosciences...she merely silently shook her head and told me i didn't even realise how Sheldon that sounded :? :?

This show is also one of my favorite shows

I'm a lot like Leonard in that I over analyze (& yet still screw things up when it comes to women). But I have to say I enjoy this show because I get there awkwardness (especially the diabolical Sheldon)

I love BBT, I can relate to all the characters especially lenoard. My friend calls me sheldon when I start being pedantic or something and I always call him sheldon, so we have funny arguments over who's the most sheldonish I guess we both are.

And yet it is Sheldon who we can all relate to even though he seems to annoy the crap out of all them (Poor Penny had to deal with a sick Sheldon  )

It seems that Penny spends a lot more 1 on 1 time with Sheldon than any of the other characters. As the series develops, I wonder if Sheldon will be able to open up and have them form some kind of relationship.

Didn't Sheldon have a few relationships but they didn't work out for him because he didn't understand his role (& knowing Sheldon he will make it more complicated then needs to be such as the infamous friendship algorithm that turned out to backfire on him). Then again Leonard also seems to have difficulty with relationships (in my mind he tries too hard then again I can relate to that)

I'm not quite sure why but the suggestion of a relationship between Sheldon and penny seems especially ridiculous. Obviously the "will they or won't they" couple is Penny and Leonard. I think a non-aspie audience would never even consider Penny being attracted to Sheldon (and vice versa, frankly), it just doesn't make sense. In recent episodes they have become closer as friends though, with a sort of grudging mutual respect.

Penny and Sheldon couldn't possibly get in a relationship simply because its Sheldon (they can't stand each other) & the fact that Leslie would probably use that against him in some twisted way (since Leslie & Sheldon are mortal enemies with him thinking she's a sub-bar scientist & her thinking he completely insane which for Sheldon is saying something)

Just bumping this thread but who is more aspie like? The most obvious is Sheldon but who would a close second? Leonard? Howard? Rajesh?

I don't know if I'd consider Howard an Aspie. He's just an uber nerd. I think Sheldon and Rajesh are Aspies for sure and Leonard, I'm still on the fence about.

Well Sheldon definitely because of the way he is & Rajesh because he can't to women (he just can't it's impossible for him unless he thinks he is drunk a placebo effect or he's not paying attention to them or he knows they are family). Leonard I would think has some aspie like characteristics but then again all of them are uber nerds (which I can understand their social difficulties)

I think only Sheldon is 100% Aspie: Raj was able to talk to women when he went through an arrogance phase when he won an award, and can talk to women with alcohol, so its more anxiety. Howard and Leonard also have at least some girlfriends, and its hard to be sure with them: they could have fit the criteria fully when younger! It is a great show: I hope it gets more popular.
