I watched episode 2 of The Undeclared War on channel 4.

I wouldn't go so far as to give it 5 stars but it's easy to watch and the story does seem to be building up.

Last night we finally finished watching our way through the 280 episodes of The Big Bang Theory [2007–2019]. We've been watching the episodes for quite some time...and enjoying it.

Though I wish they'd kept Kate Micucci's "Lucy" in the storyline.

Three episodes of Coronation Street from mid-May 1983.

Hilda Ogden's brother Archie dies and this creates a good deal of ill-feeling between her and a mysterious friend of Archie who turns up at the funeral, claiming a 'close relationship' with him. The main story is a pretty ridiculous one revolving around a dating agency, and a prank played by Bet Lynch and Vera Duckworth on Vera's husband, Jack. I suspect the scriptwriters may have borrowed the plot from the late 1970s hit record Escape, otherwise known as 'The Pina Colada Song'.

I don't remember that one DeepHour but I remember the one where the car rolled into the lake. That was a classic scene.

Also do you remember the one where Ken Barlow became a male escort? I think that may have been much later than where you're up to at the moment.

^ I have the vaguest of vague recollections of that one, and you're right, it would have been many years later. The next really major Ken Barlow story I think was his affair with Wendy Crozier, but that was around 1989/90.

Two episodes of Coronation Street from late May 1983.

Hilda Ogden goes to the Citizens Advice Bureau to find out how to get her hands on her late brother Archie's fish and chip shop. He had died without making a will, and the shop is currently being run by Archie's partner Avril, who has no intention of giving it up. Victor Pendlebury asks Mavis Riley to come and live with him at his new house in Saddleworth. This predictably puts Mavis into a bit of a state. Living together outside the institution of marriage was often referred to as 'living over t' brush' in 1970s and 80s Coronation Street.

Yes Wendy Crozier. I was struggling to think of her name.

Kill Two Birds

Episode of 'Thriller' from 8 May 1976. This is a bit of a strange one: an armed robber is released from jail after 10 years, but spends most of the episode on the run from another bunch of criminals who are convinced he knows the whereabouts of the stolen £275,000 for which he served his sentence. The production values are quite high, the Dorset countryside is very appealing, but the story just limps along to its conclusion, and the finale isn't exactly convincing. Unlike almost every other episode in this series, this has only British actors, but Gabrielle Drake and Susan Hampshire play the part of a couple of American tourists, and it has to be said that their accents are pretty laughable.

The police officers, especially the local Dorset officers, are quite funny at times. Detective Sergeant Turner looks almost exactly like John Lydon ('Johnny Rotten'), which is appropriate in a way as it was 1976.

Image

Detective Inspector Dexter: "Who are you?"

Constable Wilson (in an absurdly exaggerated Dorset accent): "Constable Wilson, Sir".

Dexter: "Whaddya want?"

Wilson: "To report, Sir"

Dexter: "To report what?"

Wilson: "To report that there's nothing to report, Sir".
