Batman Beyond "Splicers"

This episode really felt ahead of it's time what with people of Gen Z trying to socially and sexually identify as anything and everything these days.

This kind of thing is amusing and interesting in these ITC shows set behind the Iron Curtain. Is this a real language (I don't think so!), or some kind of made up stuff? Looks a bit Slavic, and the last word seems to hint at Croatia.

I took Hungarian night classes years ago and have listened to a lot of Hungarian music over the years and when I saw this it was obviously Hungarian to me. But I don't actually speak Hungarian and it doesn't translate into anything when I run it through a translator so I think your suspicions are correct. I think its Hungarianised gobbledygook.

Yes, Hungarian looked like the closest candidate for me too. 'Hivatalozosi' looks a bit like 'Hrvatska' (Croatia), but in fact 'hivatalos' is the Hungarian for 'official'. So the notice is obviously supposed to mean something like 'Official State Security' or maybe 'State Security Office'.

Two episodes of 'The Baron', namely Masquerade and The Killing from 1966.

These episodes are combined to form a single story. The Baron is 'cloned' by a plastic surgeon, as part of an ambitious scheme by a gang to steal the Crown Jewels from a vault in the Bank of England. This part of the plot is foiled by the real Mannering, who is nevertheless forced by the gang to participate in the heist after they kidnap his assistant Cordelia (sounds familiar?). Mannering in the end takes care of matters in the way that only he knows how:

The episode stars Yvonne Furneaux, who played a leading role in Hammer's 1959 film The Mummy, as one of the baddies:

As this is a double episode, Mannering is twice whacked over the head by a heavy metal implement: yet again he miraculously avoids suffering any brain damage, lol. That's how predictable and formulaic this series can be.

I'm rewatching Boston Legal as it is available for free to stream on the Roku-channel online (I use a VPN).

This used to be one of my favorites in my teens. I originally started watching it because I'm a bit of a trekkie and Shatner is one of the main characters. I still like Shatners and Spades friendship a lot but honestly a lot of things have not aged well (I was fully expecting that as they rarely do) but it still has a lot of sympathic cases and good court room speeches that do make you think about life and humanity. There's more representation of very different kinds of people with disabilities or quirks and sympathy for difference than most tv-shows even today, but it's definitely not pc and sometimes feels exploitative. Especially lots of their sexual harassment and portrayal of women characters in the office sucks and just because they self-reference it all the time doesn't really make it any more comfortable to watch for me.

I remember thinking fondly of the character of Jerry Espenson, a recurring character with aspergers but this has not aged well either. Although Spader loves him, there's lots of things in the show that further bad stereotypes about aspergers, make him the butt of the joke, unstable and violent and so on. I just watched S3:E21 Tea and Sympathy where Clarence and Jerry go head to head in court together and Jerry speaks on lawyers using his Aspergers against him in court but in a way that sort of justifies it with an "it's a cruel world"-line which felt kind of like giving up his narrative arc. It's still okay tv show to wash the dishes to or play a game with, but maybe not always so interesting to warrant watching it on it's own for most episodes which can get pretty repetitive (which is sort of its appeal too).

Bonus for a great funky theme song that always makes me happy to sing along to.

The Persuaders, episode 8 of 'The Baron' from March 1966.

The Baron's assistant, David Marlow, is held hostage by a criminal gang to force him to sell a fake Renoir to a collector. The leader of the gang is in fact the nephew of the collector, and he plans to grab the £100,000 proceeds after the sale. Needless to say, he doesn't have a hope in hell, but for once at least his demise doesn't come from a punch in the face by Mannering, but from an explosive device rigged up by Mannering's secret service colleague Templeton-Green.

The female lead is the Honourable Georgina Ward, daughter of George Ward, a Conservative member of the British House of Lords. She plays a member of the gang.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo

I just finished watching the last three episodes of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It is a Korean series on Netflix. I enjoyed the series. It is about an attorney with ASD and her journey at her first law firm and the journey her co-workers and friend take with her.

And Suddenly You're Dead, episode 9 of 'The Baron' (1966).

A deranged scientist, Ingar Sorenson (Kay Walsh), has developed a lethal biological weapon, and various people try to acquire it or steal it. It's not very obvious who some of these people are or what interests they represent, but why worry when Mannering is around to sort things out? Walsh's accent is hilarious by the way, not sure what it's meant to be (Swedish? East European?).

I am watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo for the second time.
I just watched the third episode.

Someone somewhere on the forum commented about how people with ASD seem to have a special talent, such as Shaun on The Good Doctor, or Attorney Woo Young-woo. I think episode three of this South Korean drama attempts to point out that autism is a spectrum. The story is about a young adult man, living with his parents, who is accused of beating his brother to death. The theory is he was having a meltdown. The show explains what a meltdown is and points out that although Attorney Woo Young-woo has ASD and this young man have ASD they are very different. That is why the 'S' stands for spectrum. I thought it was a well written episode, and educational without sacrificing drama. The episode also deals with suicide. The person with ASD is not the one attempting to commit suicide.

Last night we finished watching our way through the 28 episodes of:

Cleopatra 2525 [2000–2001]
<=>"The fight for earth has never been hotter!"

Fluff science fiction/action series...that we enjoy!

Many of the characters wear outfits that showoff that the actor is fit. I noted that I found the gals visually pleasing and my bride responded she had been watching the guys!

Concept: Cleopatra is a stripper who goes into surgery for breast implants and something goes wrong. She wakes up 500 years later when the surface of the Earth is controlled by gigantic kind of cartoony flying robots and mankind has taken refuge in a huge underground city...that is mostly dystopian. "Voice", from hiding, controls teams that fight back the betrayers (similar to terminators) sent by the robots. Cleo's various body parts would be sold but one of the Voice teams rescues her (after buying one of her kidneys) and adds her to their team.

Oh, a lot of the action involves acrobatic fighting...like in The Matrix, etc.

This curious crime tale was covered in a little hour doc on ABC. Trouble is that the narrator was Whoopie Goldberg. Which is fine except that Whoopie gets facts wrong. At the start of the story she said "its like a real life version of the movie 'Catch Me If You Can" starring Leonardo Di Caprio. She apparently didnt know that "Catch Me if You Can" was itself based on a true story. Kinda like how she wasnt aware that the Nazis considered themselves to be "the master race" (ergo the Holocaust was about 'racism').Just a little thing that grated on my ear. Just ranting. Other than that it was good show about an interesting case.

The Legions Of Ammak (1966): Episode 10 of 'The Baron'

Conspirators at the embassy of the Middle Eastern state of Ammak sell a national treasure to a shady businessman in order to discredit their king and take over the country. Obviously Mannering sorts things out, with the aid of some sharp observation from his assistant David Marlow, and the energetic use of his fists.

Peter Wyngarde plays the roles of both the king and an impostor who impersonates him in order to facilitate the sale of the jewels. An astonishingly attractive actress called Valli Newby plays a dancer in a London club in this episode - it seems that her career sank without trace after this. With looks like hers and just a modicum of acting talent, she could surely have had the world at her feet? Or maybe not, lol.
