My high school English teacher showed us the 1971 Roman Polanski version of
Macbeth after we read it. I wonder if she even knew anything about it, if she just grabbed a movie version at random, because it's the most shockingly violent version of them all. Nobody was laughing at that one. It's a great version, though, and certainly stuck with me, even though I didn't really like Shakespeare at the time.
