Godzilla {2014 version}

Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift

The Pyramid was not a bad film but, due to the way it was directed one could easily telegraphy what was going to happen next with the characters.Still it did have a surprising ending..

I recently watched The Wind Rises for the 2nd time. I still think its a shame it didn't win best animated picture at the academy awards.

The Devil's Hand.

Horror movie set in a Mennonite/Amish community where six girls are born allegedly under the curse where one will become the Devil's hand at age eighteen. Eighteen years later, the girls and those around them begin dying violently. Stars Colm Meaney as the fanatical but corrupt commune leader, and Ruffus Sewal as the father of one of the girls who tries to protect her from what he believes is just a myth. Okay for a low budget slasher flick.

King Kong vs. Godzilla

A pharmaceutical company captures King Kong from an island and brings him to Japan, but he escapes on the way and battles a recently released Godzilla.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are mismatched New York City detectives who seize an opportunity to step up like the city's top cops only things don't quite go as planned. Not my type of humor.

I thought I would hate this one, but I bought a copy after seeing it in the $5 bin at Walmart and my sister insisted that it was good, and it won me over. I like Mark Wahlberg better when he's doing comedy, and Michael Keaton is hysterical.

"The Silence of the Lambs" by Jonathan Demme

Of the films I have seen that were made in my lifetime (1965 to the present) i think that "The Silence of the Lambs" has to be the best made. It may not be my favorite film, but it sure as heck is well made. Every shot communicates something to the story. At no point does the story lag. It is a beautiful example of the director avoiding the limelight and putting the story first.

I heard a story that before Orson Welles made "Citizen Kane" he watched "Stagecoach" by John Ford repeatedly to learn how to make a film. I think a modern film maker might do well to analyze "Silence of the Lambs" to learn clean, efficient film making.
