I watched the first 30 minutes of Iron Sky before I had to quit. There are critically acclaimed movies, there are entertaining movies, and then there are just plain bad movies. Iron Sky is the last one, feel like I could puke. :pale:

I watched part of BYZANTIUM with my parents the other night. Part of it anyway. I was the first to get up and leave. I went to bed. The next day, my dad said they turned it off shortly after. It got like a 6.7 on imdb. That's why my dad got it from the library. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

As long as we're on the topic, people who know me know that my world is in cult, exploitation and Z-movies; I live to frolic in films that make the ones showcased on 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' look like Oscar contenders. Though I've seen the worst of the worst (and usually enjoy it), the only film I've ever turned off halfway was Henry Selick's 2001 film 'Monkeybone', starring Brendon Fraser. I can't even count the number of camcorder-shot horror films or awful porno parodies I've seen, but 'Monkeybone' was the only film where I eventually looked at the clock and decided I could be finding a better use of my time. And might I add, at one point I considered watching 'Oversexed Rugsuckers from Mars' and 'Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh' a "better use of my time".

If you're into ultra low budget shot of video stuff, you might like THE BURNING MOON, NEKROMANTIK, or THINGS. I own the BURNING MOON and I'd like to get the others. THE BURNING MOON was shot on VHS, and the picture is terrible. But the pure anti-human nature of the film is something to watch. Haven't seen the other two, but want to own them since they were shot on 8mm instead of VHS. Another sick film worth watching is VISIONS OF SUFFERING. I am pleased to say the dream sequences in that film still haunt me.

Dark Girls. It's a documentary. Light Girls is set to play next. It's also a documentary. I think it might be the sequel.

Oh, I'm intimately familiar with all of those, with the exception of 'Visions of Suffering', though I'm not as acquainted with most films made after the '90s. I'll have to add it to my list.

I'm a massive fan of shot-on-VHS - I consider it the "lo-fi" of the cinema world. I actually bought a 1980s VHS camcorder with the intention of eventually shooting my own movie, so I've seen stuff like Olaf Ittenbach and Andreas Schnaas' stuff inside and out. 'Nekromantik' I appreciated more than I did actually enjoy it (same with the sequel), but I sold my copy on eBay for nearly $100, so it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Boyhood

Film about a boy growing up with divorced parents in Texas over a 12 year period.

Was actually filmed with the same people over a 12 year period. That must have been a lot of work. Well done, folks.

Wow. Congratulations on the NEKRO sale on ebay. It's available on blue ray for 20 bucks now. Things on dvd for about 10. And Visions of Suffering DVD (RUSSIAN) is available on this site (it's 25 bucks in their store):

http://www.unearthedfilms.com/

I rented it from unearthed for 4 bucks a while back.

Selma

Brilliant biopic about MLK and the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965, which later led to the signing of the Voting Rights Act.

Directed by Clint Eastwood who calls Obama an empty chair.

I heard it had some problems, a lot of die foreigner die and only ten minutes at the end about his PTSD and death. But I don't solely form opinions on what others say, I'll have to see it for myself.

I'm not very good at summarizing movies, so here's what imdb says:

"Two high school boys discover an imprisoned woman in an abandoned mental asylum who cannot die."

The "girl" they find in an abandoned mental hospital is evil (you'll see that later in the film). She cannot die. They torture and rape her. Then they bring in bullies from their high school to get free blow jobs. She bites them and they contract some kind of disease that makes them puke their guts out and die. So they get some revenge after being beat up by them. It's supposed to be a quasi coming of age story, where teenagers pass the point of no return. I hope I didn't spoil it too much. I bought the DVD for 5 bucks about a year ago. It got rave reviews.

As a horror fan, that's my kind of movie!
