Coronation Street (1990)

Various episodes from July of that year. The main aspect which caught my attention was the noticeable participation of teenage characters compared with their almost negligible presence in previous years. I'm thinking of the McDonald twins (Steve and Andy), the Khan sisters (Felicity and Joanne) and not least Tracey Barlow (yes, that Tracey Barlow). Maybe this was due to the influence of the Australian TV soap opera 'Home and Away', which was just becoming popular in the UK around this time.

The Good Life (1975)

A British sitcom about a middle-class couple who opt out of the career rat race and try to live a self-sufficient, ecologically friendly lifestyle. A lot funnier than it sounds, this was a huge hit in the UK, which made Richard Briers, Felicity Kendall, Paul Eddington and Penelope Keith into household names.

Various episodes from August 1990. Some interesting developments at Peter Ingram's garment factory involving a power struggle between him and his manager Mike Baldwin. Rather less interesting are the antics of the braindead Duckworth couple, Jack and Vera. The show gave far too much prominence to this pair of idiots in the 1990s and 2000s in my view, especially the objectionable, loud-mouthed Vera.

The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace.

Documentary series of an adopted Ukrainian girl suffering from dwarfism and other physical disabilities. Her adoptive family learned she was actually nearing adulthood when she was supposed to be a child, and claimed she was a dangerous sociopath who had threatened them. Very disturbingly, she seemed sexually active toward men and underaged boys. But further investigations revealed she had been abused and neglected by her adoptive parents, particularly her emotionally unstable adoptive mother. What is the real truth?
Yes, I believe this case had inspired that movie with the dwarf passing herself off as a child.

Paranormal Egypt (2008)

In this episode Derek and Tessa investigate the 'Step Pyramid' allegedly built by the mysterious Imhotep. Towards the end of the proceedings, Derek becomes possessed and rushes towards a spot in the nearby desert where he insists that the undiscovered mummy of Imhotep is buried. Fifteen years on, there seems to have been no news of the discovery of the said person.

Several episodes from September and October of this year. The aftermath of the death of Peter Ingram, and the machinations of Mike Baldwin to take control of the latter's business and also of his wife Jackie Ingram. There's also an interesting subplot involving Ivy Brennan and her increasing involvement with spiritualism. Really good stuff - there's a general consensus among many Corrie fans that the show peaked in the late 1970s or early 1980s, but this period is actually at least as good as any of that.
