I watched this episode and I'm not insulted at all. The basic idea of the episode is common autism misconception. Stan was diagnosed because of stupid gossip, that's all. About claiming that AS is a fake condition... Well, come on, don't you know South Park at all? In one episode, there was Jesus and Santa fighting against terrorists in Iraq, Jesus was killed and saved Santa (therefore he saved... Christmas). In other episode, minorities changed the water pools into piss pools, and there was a piss-flood, but I don't remember why. Is that crazy enough?

I liked the idea of a secret machine which combines all flavors from all fast-foods into one gas :D, especially the "scientific" presentation about it. However, I'm disappointed, because I've expected more info about AS. In fact, there was almost nothing mentioned about it. Weirdos from Asperger's Research were not aspergian at all. IMO everyone labeled with this disorder (in this episode) was more likely depressed (the most normal ones) or schizophrenic (the weirdest ones).

But, as someone mentioned above, this is not a documentary show, so I think it is somewhat good episode.

To get upset about anything on South Park, is to misunderstand the point of South Park. And, yes, there IS a point to South Park.

South Park is all about how ridiculous society in general has become with regard to political correctness. It's NOT about religion, politics, or anything else more or less specific. It's about the writers exercising freedom of speech for the sake of freedom of speech, and hopefully making people laugh in the process.

It's not about Autism or AS.

Given the inaccuracies of every topic brought up on South Park, why on earth would anyone expect what is said about AS to be accurate? It's not a documentary show.

Additionally, a great deal of the humor on South Park, in fact almost ALL of the humor, is based on the characters near total IGNORANCE of whatever topic they cover. It's satire based on the authors perceived ignorance of those in society who "decide" what is PC.

If ya don't find it funny, don't watch it.

Holy s**t, you mean I'm not the only one who gets it? Congrats, man. That's all I gotta say. I hate hearing people complain about south park and how it's nothing but crude toilet humor... That's a crock of s**t. Yeah, they have a lot of that, but what you said is 100% spot on. And that's why I love south park so much. It provides social commentary. It helps me see what's going on in the world to an extent(no, I don't watch it like it's news, but I sure as hell don't trust the news), and then it shows me that I'm not the only one who feels the way I do about a lot of topics. AND it's god damn funny too.

To be honest, I didn't watch the episode and only cared to check out the Wikipedia article because my dad's references to Cartman's Assburgers annoyed me to the point where I looked it up to see what happened. And also I haven't watched South Park or any 2000s animation that lacks any structure or meaning or anything and make you want to punch the bland dumb characters square in the face. And after looking it up in other places(IGN) to collaborate the story, I was worrying that for all the lack of storytelling dimensions, Trey Parker and Matt Stone were right in depicting people with AS as cynical jerks who believe themselves as knowing outside of humanity yet actually don't want to accept the consensus reality that is held in society as sane and correct. That's just what I felt.

South Park came out in 1997. It doesn't lack structure or meaning, and the characters aren't bland.

I have recently finished the "Ass Burgers" episode of South Park. It did include some boring jokes about burgers being spewed from our rears, but claimed Aspergers is a facade. It portrayed those who were affected by it as low-functioning, spastic, ret*ds! It proceeded to call Aspergers a disease, and illness; almost as if it were a hardship the likes of pancreatic cancer! I am very disappointed with this episode. Regardless of whether or not Aspergers is to be joked about, this is a grotesque portrayal of aspies.

Stop!!

It's not what it looks like ;) AS ALLWAYS, if you take Southpark literally and do as if every persona is a direct opinion of either Matt of Trey you think of them as ret*ds yourself! e.g., when the radioshow makes a comment about 2,5 men, is it directly their opinion? or when mr mackey makes a quick diagnose..? youhave got to ask more questions, southpark is like platos republic, did you really think plato wants to take kids away from their parents? killing the most natural bond for a state according to nature? no, it's a comedy, just as Southpark!
So if some weird psychiatwist says that Aspergers is not a real syndrome you cannot just assume it's what they think, if you do this very quickly you might get offended where they are actually trying to put an ugly truth in light
The episode is about time and change, Kyle makes burgers with Cartman and Stan is (like last episode) asking some serious questions while the parents are still as rigid as ever! Randy is (as radically as ever) burning his guitar and tweenwave music while Stans' mom is forgiving his stupid behaviour though she clearly isn't too happy with it. Stan is actually ready for new adventure but it doesn't happen for him :( Stan has gotten some true identity though, he's growing up real fast and has recognised himself as the lord of his body
Trey and Matt (if not having Asperger themself) must be quiet familliar with the syndrome and at the very least know the missconceptions about it. If you see someone pissing at the wall it's not for nothing that Stan just looks at the ground and the camera is moving like it is, they are showing you what's wrong. Also when the door closes there is (yet another) psychiatrist that has it's own army of Aspies, he get's them drunk and feeds 'em a bunch of lies and in the process actually gets one killed (remember, the one that shoots himself).. I'm asking myself what do they mean with those kinds of things? There are political statements in all the other episodes, ones of vice and ones of great virtue, usually the base people can't imagine otherwise while the good and wise can imagine bad and funny very easely (remember plato)

if you don't think this is correct and take everything litterally, than I think you should look again and look at the irony (eirōneía) of all the other episodes and their characters, especially the ones that are 'socially unacceptable' like this one, the ones with mormons or crackbaby athletic.. pay close attention to who is saying what at what time to whom (e.g., crackbaby assosiation, Kyle is talking to Stan but he does never respond, why??)
Their true opinions are a little hidden and sometimes even a little deeper but they don't actually offend anyone not even brittney spears.

I was hoping that the episode would push the scientific frontiers of offensiveness, but reading through this thread, it just sounds boring.

South Park is no longer as clear and articulate as it used to be but I think I finally figured this one out. Even when random s**t was happening that you didn't understand it was all tied together in a context with a closing speech by the end of an episode. It's not so clear cut anymore, this season has really sucked but if we follow that modus operandi this 2 episode arc (or maybe the next episode will continue with Stan drinking? But I doubt it) was less about AS and more about how sometimes you need to let go of the past and move on to grow. (Maybe an ode to the end of South Park drawing near?)
Randy had to accept he wasn't young any more and was just pretending to enjoy young people's music to be cool. He and Sharon SHOULD have accepted they'd grown apart but didn't stay divorced "for the kids". Stan had to learn that he was becoming more mature and that fulfilment and purpose wouldn't just be put into his lap any more. He'd have to change and find something new in a society and culture full of derpa derp da teetley tum. And Stan finally figured this all out with Kyle's help that sometimes you have to take a left turn. Just when Stan had discovered this and was finally excited about the prospect of change and moving on everything was put back to the sh***y way it was. :(
I really felt for him but AS was either used as a mere silly plot device or was focused on but completely misrepresented in a way not much better than you'd expect from an ignorant 17 year old troll in a YouTube comment. The episode was kind of confusing regarding AS. I would have laughed my head off if they somehow managed to get a joke out of someone being a brilliant savant in some particular field but not being able to function in an really basic exaggerated way. Like when they had to leave the house they needed a helper to tie their shoes or something. But all we got was just a caricature of paranoid delusional, alcoholic, anti social cynics who went on a shooting rampage. WTF?
At least they kind of made fun of their own plot. "AS isn't real or they're just crazy as*holes... or... junk food companies have a paramilitary wing. Whatever! f**k you!"

When someone mentions "South Park", they are usually referring to the southern part of Park county, Colorado. Specifically, Fairplay. It's similar to how people refer to Minneapolis-St Paul as the "Twin Cities." It's a colloquial name.

what random s**t? why random? I was just wondering how they thought of the plot, thought it was brilliant. YOU didn't understand it and think it's not so clear cut, I think that you might not have understood the previous ones you thought you understood. The end of Southpark drawing near is not an option, or if it is, it has been since the very first episode because they originally said it was just gonna be one season and every time they were asked they said they weren't gonna be doing it in 5 years, so it's been proven they really love to make it, and in my view are going to continue with it, (though I was a little scared after the previous depressing one too.
I think it's the best season yet, or at least one of the best (mostly because it's storylines go together geniously and you have to ask a couple of questions before you get what they're really saying, if they say antyhing at all and don't just want to make you guess) and you can see that they really love making new episodes,

Oh my god. I saw the title of this thread and then died a little bit inside.

SOUTH PARK MAKES FUN OF EVERYBODY.

Its COMEDIC.
Its a CARTOON.

All the aspies out there who get upset by this stuff really need to chill the hell out. Why can't you laugh at yourselves? Do you take yourself and the world that seriously? Maybe the reason why we're mocked so much in the first place is because we can't take a joke! Its a funny cartoon, I watched it and it was hilarious, especially when Cartman has the burger pulled out of his ass. Aspie jokes, and joking on about aspergers isn't always an attack. You see, if people knew we could take a joke and laugh with them, maybe we would be accepted by NT people and have fun more.

Chill, seriously!

I don't see what was offensive about that at all. Every misconception about asperger's they used in the episode also involved some character showing stupidity, pointing out that the misconceptions are in fact misconceptions. Also, in a way, it kind of suggested that people with aspergers see things more clearly, and the rest are stupid or have to get drunk all the time to enjoy the sh***y things they enjoy. That episode made me laugh my f***ing ass off. It wasn't insulting or offensive at all. It was pure comedy gold, as is to be expected from Matt and Trey. I also really loved how each and every time "morpheus" referred to the "bad guys" as something different, then Stan questioned it, and he just went "aliens, robots, whatever, f**k you!"

South Park is the best damn show ever made, hands down. I think one important thing it portrays but it doesn't make incredibly obvious is that you can't take yourself or most things too seriously. You have to learn to laugh at yourself and see both sides of things, and stuff like that.

now here's one who understands  SP

tell your husband to watch again and tell him there actually are people in the world who are so ignorant to hold these views about it and that it is important to know these things and try and see it from their perspective. If you find this too offensive you're completely missing the point, you should feel flattered because of the types of persons that say or do the things you find offensive :!:
watch some other episodes and see for yourself it's not as base as it seems

It was kinda sad how the creative minds of South Park couldn't think of anything to make fun of about the disability other than its goofy name. It wasn't a matter of being offended, it was more like "that's the best you guys can do?" Come on, the Mormons got a whole musical of accurate parody, we were robbed.

Aside from that it was hard to laugh with the episode because Landslide by Stevie Nicks depresses me too much. Well, at least they tried to do something funny with it so I'll give them that.
