^^^
he lost a TON of weight for the role and does indeed look fitting for the part at least physically.

Speaking of Kubrick ....

R. Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket". His casting could be called 'stunt casting' as he had actually been a Marine Drill Sergeant, and was not a trained actor. Now that I think of it, he's probably the only actor in any Kubrick film to have that distinction.

he left the marines [back in the day] as a staff-sergeant. but after that movie came out, he was given an honorary promotion to "gunny" with full military ceremony.

Douglas Rain is a Canadian actor and narrator. Though primarily a stage actor, he is well known for providing the voice of the HAL 9000 computer for the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

That voice is stuck in the mind of everyone who has ever seen that film. Even people who say the first third of the film is boring, and the last third incomprehensible, acknowledge THAT VOICE ! !

"OPEN THE POD BAY DOORS, HAL ! !! !"
"I'm sorry Dave, I cannot comply with that request."

Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes.

To think, he almost said 'no' to the role! 8O

"Lark Rise to Candleford"

-- Julia Sawalha - as Dorcas Lane
-- Claudie Blakley - as Emma Timmins
-- Ruby Bentall - as Minnie Mude
-- John Dagleish - as Alf Arless

The first two, I've been a fan of, for several years----they're just BEYOND fabulous actresses!!

The third one, Ruby, is unbelievably talented, for someone fairly new to the scene (new, to acting). I couldn't get enough of her character, Minnie, on "Lark Rise....."

The fourth person I've listed, is new to me----but, I just LOVE his character, Alf!!

Really, is there even a bad actor, in Britain? I don't think so!!

Rutger Hauer as serial killer John Ryder in The Hitcher. A dark, twisted story of psychological sadism that couldn't have worked without Hauer.

Maybe Rutger's greatest role.

Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski as Mary Cooper and Beverly Hofstadter, respectively ("The Big Bang Theory").

leslie nielson in the various naked gun movies, nobody else had that kind of deadpan humor down cold like he did.
