In retrospect, The Weakest Link sucked.

Gene Rayburn was great, Michael Burger was terrible and Aaron, did you forget about Ross Shafer?

Amen...there's a reason we call FremantleMedia "DismantleMedia," since 1998 they have come out with many subpar versions of Goodson-Todman classics.

Quote:
Yes! they always had couples on it (somtimes even 'gay' ones) and the new Production Company had to call it 'Strike it Rich', because the old company would not release control of the 'Strike it Lucky' name.

Was this the Garagiola one???? From 1986? And what did happen with Michael Barrymore?

I do have one SiL episode from a tape trade...highlight was the fact that one couple consisted of an elderly lady and a much younger man with no family relation, apparently.

Ross Shafer came before 1998, James.

Very true. Count me in as another who liked MG90 too.

That "Strike it Rich" would be it. I remember it as part of an hour it split with Break The Bank...which Rayburn was so embarrassed by that he forbade it ever to be shown again.

Zed, also a fan of Rayburn and Shafer Match Games

Yeah, we know he said such. On the other hand, the MG/HS "ban" on Gene's behalf is actually just speculation.

In NY, I believe SiR got the noon timeslot of doom. It was soon relegated to late night.

Believe it or not, I like the theme from Ross Shafer's version better than Gene Rayburn's.

I could see that. And how about the incidentals when the stars wrote thteir answers?

I'm a sucker for production values. The '90 set was a lot better built than the one for the '70s, and that went a long way in my enjoyment of Shafer's version. Ross was kinda underrated, I think. I don't think I'd have liked Bert Convy quite as much if he'd been well enough to host past the pilot.

Wow, great responses. I didn't realize how much you guys are game show fans. Thanks a bunch. Sorry for my hiatus on my thread.

Oh...I just found out that one of the people who faced Ken Jennings in his legendary Jeopardy! reign actually graduated with me in high school. His name's Tom Aquino, if that helps.

James, I think I remember this person. That day, was Ken Jennings' other opponent a woman by the name of Jenny?

Yep, slate.com kept commenting how she sounded like Lisa Simpson, IIRC...

I actually saw that episode. My market airs reruns of "Jeopardy!" at 12:30 as a replacement for "Port Charles." I do remember that episode, and if I recall correctly, Ken Jennings did win.

Did he? Who would've guessed it???? ;-)

Port Charles...that was the show that had the girl from the Orbit commercials, no?
