How about the sequel to Jaws whith the elderly shark.
They named the film "Gums".

speaking of gums, there was a movie in 2007 called "Teeth."

That was a great movie!

My favorites are low budget science fiction humor:

A Boy and His Dog 1975

Dark Star 1974

I will have to check out some of the others that have been posted.

Anomalisa

A 2015 British-American 3D-printed R-rated stop-motion animated psychological romantic comedy-drama fantasy film directed by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson.
It's weird and depressing, and really good.

I concur. At first, Charlie Kaufman didn't want his play made into a movie,
but when the people who oversaw the production read the book, they allowed him to direct it.

Off Topic
Question for fellow fans of Charlie Kaufman: Over the years, Guillermo del Toro has expressed interest in filming a new version of Slaughterhouse 5 but only from a script by Charlie Kaufman, so what do you think? Would you watch a Kaufman-scripted remake of Slaughterhouse 5 or something else similar in tone?

Film Trivia:
Who can tell me the connection between the films "Heaven Can Wait", "Xanadu" and "Stargate"?

Answer:
Heaven Can Wait (1978) was based on a film called Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), which was based on the play Heaven Can Wait (1938) by Harry Segall.

The sequel to Here Comes Mr. Jordan was Down to Earth (1947) staring Rita Hayworth as a Muse and Larry Parks as Danny Miller.
Rita Hayworth also stared in Cover Girl (1944) with Gene Kelly, playing Danny McGuire.

Xanadu (1980) was based on Down to Earth.
Xanadu stars Olivia Newton-John as a Muse and features Gene Kelly, reprising his role as Danny McGuire.

(The title "Down to Earth" was used for the comedy film Down to Earth (2001) starring Chris Rock, which is a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan. )

I thought there was a link between Stargate (1994) and Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) but I was mistaken.

Stargate (1994) was the basis for the tv series, Stargate SG-1 staring Richard Dean Anderson.
Stargate was about a machine called a "Stargate" which allowed travel through spacetime through wormholes.
Richard Dean Anderson previous tv series was MacGyver (1985 to 1992).

That is where I got my wires crossed - I thought RIchard Dean Anderson was in Quantum Leap (1989 to 1993)
But that was Scott Bakula.

However

Quantum Leap was also Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) and Heaven Can Wait (1978).

Mountain Goat,

(1) I showed your clips to my bride and she (who volunteers at a cat shelter) really liked them.

(2) I liked both clips but the first one made me think of Kaiju films and seeing "dead" bodies in the gondola car (UK & down under open wagons?) in the second clip reinforced this.

(3) I notice the locomotives in the second clip are painted similarly to the ones in your WP avatar image. Is there some significance to this?

(4) And, most importantly...

Thank you Kraichgauer and cecilfienkelstien! Though we'd never heard of it, last night we watched The Girl with All the Gifts [2016] (tagline: "Our greatest threat is our only hope."). We both thought it was great!
