The Karmann Ghia are very beautiful, always loved them, even if very underpowered for the looks...(45 kW; 60 hp)
they were kinda expensive at the time, and unfortunately expensive to own too:
"In contrast to the Beetle's machine-welded body with bolt-on fenders, the Karmann Ghia's body panels were butt-welded, hand-shaped, and smoothed with English pewter in a time-consuming process commensurate with higher-end manufacturers, resulting in the Karmann Ghia's higher price."Panels basically hand made, and if you got in an accident, panel beating costs much higher, cos of the fine work done in pewter.
Also means you can't just take a panel from one and put it on a different one, apparently!
Effectively they are kinda carriageworks manufacture!
So two very different sorts of carriages, LOL!
