I just saw American Sniper. A story about Navy S.E.A.L Chris Kyle who had 160 confirmed kills and his struggles with PTSD. I enjoyed this movie.

Philadelphia

Tom Hanks is a man with AIDS that is fired by his law firm because of his condition. He hires Denzel Washington, a homophobic small time lawyer, since he is the only willing advocate for a wrongful dismissal suit.

Indeed. Quite an intense battle they had against those SS in the end.

Drive

An unnamed getaway driver falls for his neighbor as her husband returns from prison, getting them mixed up with gangsters.

I finally got around to watching The Night of the Hunter.

I was a little bit disappointed as I didn't really get any feeling of suspense while watching it, in fact I found some scenes just odd. Maybe it just didn't age well.

The Great Gatsby.

Watched again the most recent film remake of the Fitzgerald book about Jay Gatsby, a man of humble beginnings who creates a whole world of wealth and fame in order to recapture the idealization of a girl he had loved five years before, but who in reality was hardly worthy of him. I now own this movie, which I consider outstanding in both it's sensational visuals, and in the power in conveying the soul of the novel.

Whiplash

Drama about an aspiring jazz drummer who goes through emotional hell thanks to a music instructor who behaves more like a drill sergeant and not like a music instructor. Great movie and JK Simmons easily steals the show as the brutal music instructor.

Warm Bodies

Adapted from Romeo and Juliet. Zombie film told from the POV of an unusal zombie who saves a living girl. He starts to become more human. . .

I watched "The Babadook" the other day - a superbly intelligent and unsettling horror movie. I highly recommend it.

Looking at many of the reviews on iTunes and Amazon it seems as though a lot of people didn't enjoy it. Presumably they were looking for jump scares and gore, which are largely absent from this movie. Sigh.
