Korean Odyssey

Watched episodes 19 and 20.

Of the several possible outcomes I imagined, one partially came to be, but it was done in a way I did not foresee. It was a satisfying ending.

Last night we watched this episode of Doctor Who, assuming this post does what I what I want!

The Ghost Bride (2020) on Netflix

Episode 1 of 6

Imagine my surprise. This is not a Korean series. I noticed right away that it was not Korean. "The opening titles don't look Korean. That doesn't sound Korean. They don't look Korean." It is Malaysian. I will have to get use to this.

It takes place in the 1890s. A young woman is to be married to the deceased son of a wealthy family so he will not be alone in the afterlife. However, the ghost of the young man comes to her and tells her he was murdered, poisoned. So it is a murder mystery and she has 10 days to solve it. It does not feel like an Agatha Christie story either. I don't believe they ever had so much cultural spirituality. Watching episode 2. There is a servant who is actually a Heavenly Guard, also attempting to solve the murder.

- Many hours later -
Finished The Ghost Bride (episodes 2 - 6). Around episode 3, the story shifted to what I imagined it might be like. The young lady is pulled into the Underworld or Neverworld by the murdered young man. The Heavenly Guard is at first there for chuckles, but he plays an important role in resolving the problem. The problem is the murdered young man maybe deserved to be murdered. He was quite egocentric with a dash of evil.

I watched the Archer finale Into the Cold. I really enjoyed the last few seasons but was not very impressed by this.

Plus why do TV shows that have never been able to use the f-word go nuts when they go exclusive on Hulu? It never sounds natural to me, it just sounds forced. Community did the same thing on Yahoo.

Are you watching this for the first time? If so, I'm jealous, it gets insanely good.

I tried to rewatch but found first season episodes unbearably slow because I know how good it gets later.

Hello, My Twenties (2016-2017)

Season 1, episode 1 - Fear of Takeoff #Slipper

A painfully shy young woman moves in to an apartment with four other young women. It's her first year of college. As mentioned, she is painfully shy and it was at times painful to watch because it reminded me of myself in high school and college. It's why I prefer to live alone. All the girls are very different, and I believe a year older than her. They take advantage of her good nature, eat her jam, and are generally rude self-centered housemates. One of the roommates does not show up until late in the episode, when it appear the young ladies are beginning to get to know one another.

I'm watching this purely because Park Eun-bin is in it. There are some actors I'm trying to broaden my appreciation of their other work. Eun-bin for instance played Woo Young-woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. She was the one house mate that showed up late in the episode.

This morning I watched two episodes of Batman (part 1 and 2) with Adam West. Catwoman was the villain. Her and the Riddler were my favorite villains when I was a child (age wise). 1960s teen sensation (over hype) Lesley Gore was a guest star. She sang two partial songs.

Finished season 1 of Hello, My Twenties.

I enjoyed it. We learn more about the roommates and they learn more about one another. Towards the end of season one, one roommate is seeing a psychologist to help her deal with being kidnapped by a self obsessed ex-boyfriend. She talks about her roommates instead and comes to the conclusion that they are all weird, and she is the only normal one. Later, she gets text messages from other friends, and she realizes she is weird as well.

The roommate that has many jobs and goes to school has issues paying for her mom's debts and is sexually harassed by her boss at the restaurant where she is a waitress. She has a brother who has been in a coma for six years. She eventually applies for a salary corporate job, one she has been going to school for. She believes the ghost that haunts them may be her brother.

The roommate that has been labeled a prostitute by her other roommate realizes her life may be easy, but she is not happy and it is going nowhere. She gets a real job where she assists people just like her. Literally, when one of her clients brings his new girl for hire in to buy her clothes. She realizes she is 24 and has no skills.

The new girl, the shy one, gets caught up in a family insurance scandal and she believes the ghost that is haunting there apartment is her father.

The girl that says she sees ghosts (Park Eun-bin) continues to fret about not having a boyfriend, but she does so with a big smile on her face and joy in her attitude. At one point, she tells her roommates they need to have a huge party while their landlady is out of town. She says this will get rid of the ghost. We only learn how lonely she is when in a scene while all the young ladies are at a hospital after a serious ordeal, someone comes to meet each of them, but no one shows up for her.

I think that was vague enough that there are no spoilers.

I'll wait a few days before starting season 2.

Will Trent (2023)

Season 1, episodes 1 through 6

Season 2 starts next week and I'm getting into the mood to watch it. Character and plot refresher.

I would continue to watch it tonight, but The Bride of Frankenstein is on Svengoolie (MeTV)
