I attended one of the world's biggest film festivals for 10 days, so I saw a lot of movies recently. Including these ones.
Mad Max Fury Road (one of the best action films ever)
Macbeth (brilliant)
just to name a few.
And I saw yesterday San Andreas, lots of fun but same story over and over again for these type of movies.

Just watched the film "Spare Parts", was expecting a cruddy B-movie, but it mentioned robots so gave it a go... Very impressed overall, especially as its based on a true story.

Lots of good moments, but Jamie Lee Curtis telling an empty school that they'd won was hilarious but a great sign of pride for their achievement.

Oh and slap technique, I think its a winner!

Happy-Go-Lucky

Another Mike Leigh film.

I'm going to look up Spring, the film NotaHero mentioned (page 461). Sounds interesting.

Travis Logan, D.A. (1971)

A legal thriller with Vic Morrow and Hal Holbrook... why didn't I know about this sooner?

It's a pilot for a TV series that was never made. Shame, because it's very good. It's much better than The New Perry Mason, which I've also been checking out recently, and that got 15 episodes.

It's apparently never been released on home video, but luckily it's on YouTube. The picture quality is hideous; I'd love to see a decent copy put out on DVD.

I like this advertisement that gets the title wrong, making it seem like Logan is a doctor instead of an attorney:

San Andreas
Morning showing, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson showed how inferior all non fit, non muscular men are. Our loved ones would definitely die. On the other hand Paul Giamatti arguably saved more people, and he played a science nerd, so it's all good. I enjoyed the film. It reminded me of a next generation disaster film from the 1970's. It was just missing Charlton Heston. They should have place a digital version of him falling to his knees, pounding his fist on the ground, and yelling "You maniacs! You shook it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!" That's probably too much.

Poltergeist
Afternoon showing. It's sometimes hard to see a remake of a film because the story has already been told visually. Sometimes I have to see a film (like Peter Jackson's King Kong) more than once just to get past my brain telling me what to expect next. I enjoyed this remake. There were differences. They found something for the older daughter to do other than show up at the end of the film SCREAMING HER HEAD OFF. So that is a game changer right off the bat.

I won't be so wordy with the next movie.

Please, do be wordy! I enjoy reading a poster's personal insights about films just watched.

The Boxtrolls
Streaming on Netflix. This is possibly the best movie I've seen today. Well it is definitely different. It is entertaining and it is 3D model animation. It's funny, and above all I like funny, which possibly why it is possibly the best movie I've seen today.

Dig that VHS cover art. It's actually more classy than the poster, which looks like it was drawn in crayon by a middle school art student.
