The last movie I saw was Noah. Don't bother, except for Hopkins as Methuselah.

Jeremy Brett once said that playing Sherlock Holmes was harder than playing Macbeth. Maybe that's why his Holmes is more interesting; a better challenge, and all that. There he was playing a character; here he's reciting dialogue. At any rate, I'll re-watch those Holmes episodes again and again, but I doubt I'll ever want to re-watch this particular Macbeth again.

Bring on the next disappointment. I'll keep watching the versions I've missed, even though it's increasingly doubtful that any of them will ever come close to matching the ones from 1957 and 1971, or even the 2006 update.

Perfectly respectable, but then so is a nicely paved sidewalk. Who cares.

King Ralph with John Goodman.

I remember as a very young child going to the local video store and see the poster for this movie. It fascinated my young mind. Now I have actually seen it and I enjoyed it a lot.

Pitch Perfect 2

Saw an afternoon show yesterday and I don't remember laughing so hard that I have to agree with people who have seen this that Pitch Perfect 2 is certainly much better than Pitch Perfect.

Nope. It's loosely based on The Sign of the Four, which was influenced by Treasure Island. There have been two Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper movies: A Study in Terror and Murder By Decree. Three if you count From Hell, in which Johnny Depp plays a character who may as well be Holmes.

I saw Taxi Driver after of years of wanting to see it. It lived up to my hype. Travis Bickle's quote about loneliness is something I can relate to a lot:

Actually, the character Depp had played was a composite character - the real life Inspector Frederick Aberline, who had investigated the Ripper murders, and the Queens fortune teller, who had offered his services to the London police but was laughed out of the building. Neither was ever addicted to anything in real life.

From what I've read, the character in the movie is basically fictional, and they just gave him Aberline's name. Watching the movie, it was obvious that the true inspiration was Holmes, so much so that I was wondering why they didn't just call him Holmes to begin with.
