I do think it's kind of weird the hate that is going around for this -- being as I am a full advocate for personal taste and subscriber to the Don't LIke Don't Read philosophy. This is something that baffles me as well and honestly, I do think there is a degree of sexism involved in the outright hatred for literature aimed at teenage girls.

Does the same ring true for the Hunger Games?

I read it three years ago, and it was as good a way to pass the time as any other I guess, although I didn't know that much about bad writing back then. My future ex-girlfriend at the time also pressured me a bit, I must say . But I didn't hate it or anything, by then I'd already read Deathly Hallows more than once and I was looking for something else to fill my time.

The reason many guys rage at it, I'd say, is the reason many guys in general hate Justin Beaver and emos in an irrational way. Jealously and envy. What Edward and the other two have in common is, they don't fall under the definition of masculinity many guys are comfortable with, but many girls swoon over them anyway (there were A LOT of female emos around here, and they dated mostly male emos), and it makes their masculinity feel threatened, and the only way they can let that out is by bashing them. That's not the case with everybody, but I'd say it's like this for many.

My personal reason to not be that thrilled about twilight now is, it gives those who read it unreasonable expectations about men. I mean, look at what happened. Bella is a completely unremarkable girl, she says that herself. And then there comes this guy, who has a totally perfect body (but oh no she doesn't care about that), is stupidly rich (but noooo she doesn't like attention and gifts and she doesn't care he's rich, that would be so shallow!), and who absolutely desires her, just her, because he sees something special that nobody else sees in her unremarkable self. And yep, he had the opportunity to be with another beautiful, perfect vampire, but he chooses to be with her. He's also super strong, super athletic, reads the minds of everyone (except her) and can't live without her, It gave me the impression that Stephenie Meyer wrote herself as Bella, and her perfect lover as Edward, and then paired them together in her fantasy world.

I've got more analysis where that came from, but that should more or less make my point.

The twilight series is so poorly written it is laughable, also vampires do not sparkle.

  Thank you, my friend.

Reasons I don't like Twilight, having read much of it out of morbid curiosity:

The writing is horrible. (It's like a dictionary had earth-shattering indigestion and shat all over the pages to an empty book.)
The characters do creepy stuff. (Greasing up windows so you can sneak into some chick's room at night without getting caught?)
The plot can be very very disturbing. (I'm never going to get the imagery of some bloody vampire baby snapping her mommy's spine out of my head.)
What the hell is with the sparkling pretty boy vampires? (By the Gods, if you're gonna be a vampire prettyboy at least try to be more like Damon or Stephan from Vampire Diaries.)

All in all, the whole lot of books are rubbish.

I like vampires a lot but I don't like Twilight. I'm not going to judge people that like it or say it shouldn't exist. Some people don't like the kinds of vampires I like.

Some of my reasons are different than other people's reasons.

1. No sexy biting. A large part of the reason I like vampires is because I find the idea of someone biting me and drinking my blood to be erotic. No such scenes can happen in Twilight because the Twilight vampires are venomous and have poor self control. If they bite you you will surely either be turned or dead.

2. It's basically a boring chick flick where one of the characters happens to be a vampire.

3. I've had enough of whiny vampires that hate what they are and don't want to bite people or drink human blood. I can only take so much of that.

I have never read twilight.

The hardcore fans confuse me. As in the ones that go crazy whenever people like Robert Pattinson show up. I would understand getting excited about a favourite celebrity showing up, but these people get completely hysterical.

Worst thing is that the author never visited Forks until after the first book. Forks had to totally change because of the stupid book.

I'm a girl and I'm not into Twilight. To be honest, I've never really been into the whole vampire thing.

Simple really, it has basically bludgeoned the whole vampire mythology and has given the impression that these once evil, smelly, sinister and dark creatures are sparkly hair-care product obsessed prettyboys. And don't even get me started on Robert Pattinson sparkling in the sunlight, since when do vampires sparkle!?!?!

If i want real vampire movies, i will watch...

The Bela Lugosi Dracula
The Hammer Horror Dracula with Christopher Lee
Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman as the Count
Interview with the Vampire
The Lost Boys
Blade
Blade 2
30 Days of Night
Daybreakers - The subsider vamps P*SSES all over Edward Cullen
Let Me In

Now you know why i hate Twilight.

Don't forget the Ginger Snaps series. Katherine Isabelle is HOT (and yes, I know she's a lesbian, but damn!)!

Isn't Ginger Snaps a werewolf flick? :?

In my perception, there's a general trend when it comes to pop-culture films, books, figures, etc that are (thought to be) associated with a strong female following-

for instance, a lot of women don't care for gratuitous horror/cheesy action films,
but you won't find hordes of them all over the internet spamming every site related to them with "This is GAY! Anyone who likes this is a FAG!"

I really don't care for any of Justin Bieber's work,
but I don't feel compelled to post and comment about brutally killing him, or viciously insulting those who do like him.

What kind of reasoning motivates someone from strong dislike of a certain something for various reasons to furiously raging against it at every opportunity?

My personal hatred comes from hype not the content itself. So many women made the films out to be an amazing romance instead of a sexy chick flick. There's nothing wrong with sexy chick flicks but denying the true nature of the film was annoying. Yes yes of course you can enjoy your version of porn but don't criticise men when they enjoy theirs
