^^^By the way, who are your favourite characters in Clannad and Kanon? I like Nagisa, Fuko, Ushio, Kotomi, Ayu, and Mai best.

In Clannad, I would say Kotomi, followed by I think Akio. I think Kotomi resonated a bit with me in the social and emotional expression problems, yet also wanting to tell jokes, and how the journey of dealing with her trauma starts with showing something so different from normal. Akio is simply hilarious, he feels like he took steps to become an adult in that he can deal with a lot, but never let his inner kid disappear and wants to have fun, I think perhaps I would not mind being like him.

In Kanon, I would say Yuuichi, with Ayu coming in second place. I am a big fan of Yuuichi as an ideal protagonist, in hindsight I think my own sense of dry wit, of playing little jokes, but also earnestly caring about people. For Ayu, not even sure I could say, it sounds like the cliché to go the main heroine after I said the hero, it could be that she is moe, that she is pretty childish and can get down a bit, but still manages to soldier on.

I see that I judged KonoSuba too quickly within a few episodes, I just got to the cabbage part and this is extremely funny.

And the joke is that it is not at all like the fantasy he imagined. The show is built on the joke of subverting the genre expectations. That they are a bunch of ridiculous losers, and even funnier when they get misunderstood.

And out of curiosity, I know you said you were bored with Re:Zero with what you got up to, but I am wondering how far you got? It does start out as escapist early on, but under its initial light appearance is more of a dark fantasy not too different from Berserk, or Dark Souls. It especially can act as mystery of various horrible murders, and every character. Like how most characters in Konosuba have a trait that has them as just the worst, Re:Zero has it in sort of twisting their character. With smart character writing.

I was near the part where they're about to crown the new ruler, around episode 10 or 12 I think. I decided to take a break there and lost the momentum to continue. I think I'll have enough momentum to find another anime when I finish KonoSuba, so I might end up deciding to finish Re:Zero.

That is about the time that it spits on ideas as females as prizes to be won, from ideas with fiction as power fantasies, where the hero complex is more for self fulfillment than something that is right for the other party. That general “waifu” worship is treating someone as a lesser, and not as a person. A rare example that a story fully throws into the spotlight an audience surrogate character as being a big ass.

And what is also interesting is that initial impressions of characters is of being tired cliché, with the other candidates being horrible as examples of being ignorant with little care of the weak for Crusch, just a cute face as well as being really greedy for Anastacia, And Priscilla seemed to have no respect for the pride of others. And it kind of gets turned onto its head. Crusch actually became one of my favourite characters, a badass in various definitions of the term, without even some token of “joining his harem”. Right along with her knight, Felix, who at first seems little more than a pretty walking innuendo, who could even be taken as disrespectful.

I think perhaps why I have also really been enjoying a Diana from Little Witch Academia, that at first glance she appears to be a stuck up who thinks to highly of herself while looking down on others, but is a much deeper character.

Kyon and Yuuichi could be twins. I find that quite funny.

And in Japanese they are both voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, where he is a great deadpan snarker.
The voice work is cool in the series as there is things like each character have their own version of singing the ED, Hare Hare Yukai, in character, as well as various other character songs by them in character. Like Kentai Life Returns that has Kyon more and more frustrated as it goes on.

I actually have a plan now!

1) Finish watching Tales of the Abyss
2) Check out Haruhi and see if I like it
3) Finish Clannad [the visual novel]
4) Rewatch the Clannad anime
5) Play more of Tales of the Abyss [the game]

Has anyone watched Saiunkoku Monogatari? It's next on my watching list.

Just finished season 2 of KonoSuba, that was pretty good. Next I'm going to finish up Anohana and my rewatch of Welcome to the NHK.

Has anyone seen K? I'm kind of in the process of watching it.

Also, I started watching an anime long ago when it first came out called Shiki but I never finished it. I was wondering if it's worth watching all the way through.

^I've heard of both of them, but I don't know much about either.

Just finished Planetes, no wonder it was in the recommendation list I use. Next I'll finish up Anohana, then onto Jin-Roh or Ghost in the Shell.

I was not much of a fan of K. The music could be good, and there was some nice style, but it just felt like it was not my thing, that it felt more style over substance, and at least as a male the characters felt so ridiculous that they were not really enjoyable, or was glorifying things it really should not. I quit after the first season, because I felt frustrated.
The studio fairly recently did a project called Hand Shakers, which seemed a little more targeted at males with a similar style K, and turned out to be one of the worst recent anime, at least early on.

As for Shiki, it was actually a rare show that I started and then stopped watching. It could turn out to be good, but I also think that for me personally to stop watching, it might be something I did not find to my tastes, which could have been with how it handled death with a fairly young cast. I don’t tend to be much of a fan of death games, especially with young characters (the concept of Hunger Games sickens me), and although it might not have had that exactly, there might have been an aspect that felt like it.

Bradleigh: Thank you. Others have told me K is 'weird' lol. My sister mentioned something similar about glorifying things it shouldn't. As for Shiki, I don't remember why I stopped watching it but as I've read a bit more about it, it may have been something disagreeable and not just that I lost interest or got busy etc.

Kurado and Bradleigh: Any anime recommendations? I prefer shorter anime series, like 26 episodes or less. My attention span can barely handle that many. I've seen longer ones, like Sailor Moon was around 200 episodes. But I watched them when I was a kid and more obsessive over anime. If it can hold my attention span and it's more than 26 eps, I don't mind.

If it helps, a few I like are Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Darker Than Black, Eden of the East, Death Note (longer than 26 eps but I love L to pieces), and Cowboy Bebop.
