Diabel (Zulawski). Ridiculous, but kind of fun.

Fire in the Sky (1993)

I saw this movie when I was nine years old. Needless to say, I did not sleep right for a year. Even as an adult, having viewed it many times since, the flashback scene remains as timeless, surreal and disturbing as it was back in the day.

The sequence is pure nightmare fuel, certainly light years ahead of any other PG-13 horror effort. And for that matter, it somehow manages to be rather more horrific than anything I can recall having seen in any R-rated film. Travis Walton escapes from his organic holding pod, desperately clinging onto a detached cable in zero gravity as if it were a newborn's umbilical cord. Shortly thereafter, he is dragged through a long corridor, desperately flailing about for anything solid to grasp...yet receiving little else but heaping handfuls of dust (like so much cremated human remains). The personal effects of innumerable prior abduction victims are herein left scattered about: old books, old glasses, children's shoes, etc. D. B. Sweeney's portrayal of a curious, naive blue-collar man who is reduced to a state of unfathomable terror and helplessness is authentic and intense, as his character becomes a guinea pig for unearthly surgical experimentation. It would not be incorrect to suggest that this entire scene is a masterpiece of filmmaking, practical special FX and horror.

The rest of the film is decent enough and necessary for context, serving to distract the audience whilst it's unassuming members are carefully lulled into the unexpected psychological trap awaiting them at the end...

I watched Interstellar, during my first attempted watch a few weeks ago I was plagued by the drowsycloud which my medication creates before it knocks me out and I didn't really absorb or appreciate all that much and only managed half of it. It was an enthralling watch as things got moving, I always ponder space and time and dimensions so it really kicked some juices into high gear! I teared up a couple times cause it's a pretty emotional concept, I thought ''holy **** look how close he is'' during the pinnacle, such a heavy thing to observe from behind a thin screen.

The Lobster.

Dark comedy about a dystopian world where those who are without a mate are sent to a luxurious hotel where they have a certain time to meet someone new, and failing that, they are turned into an animal of their choice. The lead character, along with his brother who is now a dog, hopes to become a lobster, so he can live over a hundred years, and have lifetime fertility. He chooses to escape, and join the resistance, called loners. But the loner society is just as dystopian, as love and physical affection is not only banned, but is severely punished. Then he falls in love.
The first half of the movie was great, but the second half just diverted from the story, and proved to be too long. Still, I'd recommend this movie.

What did you think of it? Have you seen the 1972 version?

I thought it was a good film despite the fact, it took a different approach from the book in terms of character similarities and so forth. Yes, I've seen the 72 version as well all in Russian with English subtitles and in letterbox format,

Watched Cloverfield and Afflicted on Prime

Both are in found footage format, Cloverfield was okay but I'm saying that as a person who likes dumb monster movies so I wasn't really too impressed. Without spoiling Afflicted, I would just say it was surprisingly good and one can make assumptions about what exactly the film is about from the title.

Freaky Friday (1970's something version). It started out badly with making them do too stupid things (the daughter's extreme ignorance of what to put in the washing machine (that's the kind of mistake a much younger kid might make, not a 13 year old), and the mother turning on the lights in the dark room). It was too dumb to be funny. Thankfully it did pick up after that, and although the car chase wasn't realistic, it was funny.

The Hole (2009). Nice, reminiscent of "Fear of the dark" (2003).

I had no idea Freaky Friday was a remake.

I liked it a lot. It was cool to see all the actors when they were much younger.
