When I was 10 I went to see Monsters Inc. with my friends, and that made me cry. It wasn't the monsters. It was actually the little girl in the movie. Somehow her cuteness and innocence and how the monsters were taking advantage of her made me tear up. I was embarrassed, so I pretended to be tired and rest my head on my mom's shoulder, but I could tell she knew what was wrong with me.

Recently the Polar Express made me shed a couple tears. Then I stopped.

Charlotte's Web
Old Yeller
Homeward Bound (the part where I thought Shadow was dead--they really like to kill off animals in movies that are supposedly family-friendly, don't they?)
And:

I saw these movies 5+ years ago, though. I don't know if they'll still make me cry.

Normally, I don't cry at the end of sad movies, but there were a couple that made tear up. When I first saw Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey in theaters, I cried a little bit, but it was more like a good cry, like, "I'm so glad the animals made it home!" The second one was The Family Stone. My boyfriend bought it for me for a present last year, but watching that one was more upsetting, because my grandmother had died the year before. Plus, I had seen it a while back and had forgotten that it was sad. Otherwise, I don't usually cry at the end of sad movies.

I tend to really dislike emotionally manipulative films, perhaps because I too easily am overwhelmed by them.

"Paris, Texas" is one of the few films where I feel free about the emotional release at the end. The film is a slow, quiet build up to the main character's finally returning his son to the boy's mother as an apology for all the wrongs he did years ago. I think the film has more emotional power because none of this is ever overtly stated.
