May have been mentioned already but still.. Today I recommend takeshi kitano's "zatoichi".. There is much that could be said of this film butI'll leave it for now since y'all can watch it. Will just say it's an 18, fairbit of bloody violence.

I liked the film Crash by Paul Haggis. The story telling was well done, the characters were well portrayed and the music was excellent. All the characters interact with one another to demonstrate 42 hours in the lives of ordinary people -each somehow connected and influencing the lives of those around them. Addresses racism and the idea that everyone is a little bit of an as*hole.

I also enjoyed Fiddler on The Roof -it's long but most of it is singing, so if you don't like musicales this may not be the film for you. Set in the early 1900's in a small village in Russia, the film depicts the life of a Jewish milkman/farmer and his family as he tried to cling to tradition while opening himself up to change. Also funny at times.

The Pink Panther (1963) was also good. I prefer this to the recent American versions because the humor was much more intelligent. Jewel thieves and blundering detective inspectors as well as scandal and comedy. Very nice.

Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail -wonderful British humor.

If you want horror -An American Werewolf in London (1981) was interesting, though rather dark and gory (not so much now, I suppose). Plot's rather self explanatory: American get's bit by a werewolf in London and must find a way to stop himself from slaughtering people on the full moon est.

Gladiator was great. Very good acting, wonderful soundtrack.

Tokyo Godfathers was great anime film. Three homeless people in Tokyo find an abandoned baby on Christmas eve and try to find her parents. Hillarity ensues.

I liked Crash, too. It's a very controversial film, but I felt that it was very effective and made you think.

Here are some I think a lot of people should like (each title is a link to the trailer): Catch Me If You Can, I Love You Phillip Morris, Almost Famous, and Mary and Max (which you DEFINITELY need to see if you have Asperger's, PERIOD).

Crash
is one of my favorite movies, though I constantly forget to mention it on lists of movies I like. I Love You Philip Morris, and Marry And Max are great, too.

Interesting. Seven pages of suggestions and 95% are Hollywood-made films. I've gotten to where I prefer European and Asian films. A partial list of recommendations --

M, Blue Angel, Wings of Desire -- Germany
Day of Wrath, Ordet, Vampyr -- Denmark
Seventh Seal, Smiles of a Summer Night, Wild Strawberries -- Sweden
The Vanishing -- Netherlands
Closely Watched Trains -- Czechoslovakia
Elevator to the Gallows, La Belle et La Bete, 400 Blows, Vagabond -- France
Umberto D., Cinema Paradiso, Amarcord, La Strada, Nights of Cabiria -- Italy
Devil's Backbone, Spirit of the Beehive -- Spain
Ballad of A Soldier -- Russia
Throne of Blood, Sanjuro, Rashomon, Ran, Harakiri, Ikiru, Sansho the Baliff, Tokyo Story -- Japan
The Commitments, Secret of Roan Inish, Waking Ned Devine -- Ireland

I also like silent films from the early days of cinema. A sampling --
Passion of Joan of Arc
The Wind
Sunrise
Metropolis
Le Roue
Battleship Potemkin
Haxan (Witchcraft Through the Ages)
Phantom Carriage
