Damn it all to hell! I wanted to scrounge up some cash and take my little sister Kaeri-chan to see the new Hayao Miyazaki film, but its not showing in any theatres! There are two theatres in wyoming, and only one shows new releases, its the Fox Theatre by Washington Park. Of course, they only show six movies at once, and of course they're not going to show Ponyo! The nearest up-to-date theatre is 40 miles away in Cheyenne! Seriously, someplace like Malco or something needs to get off their ass and expand their business here... oh wait, i forgot! You CANT build a new movie theatre because the economy is screwed!

(Thus proving how all of Roxas_XIII's problems can be traced back to the federal government. No wonder he wants to start a rebellion...)

There is another option, and that option is peer to peer downloading. No, it is not stealing, but yes, it is copyright infringement. Like every other "law," legislation, or court ruling, in the Police States of America, the copyright law has drifted from its originally intended purpose to becoming a massive corporate welfare grab. Rather than setting up a site where you can pay to download movies, the cartels still insist on making people buy expensive movie tickets and delaying the release of movies so that their favored player gets to take in most of the cash. The good of the customers who pays the bills come in at dead last.

Yes, you can build a movie theatre that shows the latest movies, and that movie theater can cater to its customers and be very cheap. The most expensive part of this movie theatre is the television. A DVD player that also comes with a USB port for playing movies stored on thum drives can be had for less than $100. The best part about your movie theatre is the fact that you do not have to put up with other peopl's ringing cell phones, texting, making loud noises, etc.

So, there I was, sitting in the movie theatre, sorta ducking down, because I had already seen "Julie/Julia" and I was sneaking into "Adam" and this Disney thing comes on after the previews and trailers. I am thinking it is some short before the movie but it kept going on and on . . . seems I was in a movie called "Ponyo" and I beat it out of the theatre, tout suite!

"Adam" was in the next theatre over and I hadn't missed much of it. ~whew~

but I know what you mean by being in places that don't have good movies come there. I didn't see StarWars for two years after it came out because it only played in Honolulu and didn't come to Hilo on the Big Island until it had worn out its newness. . .

Roxas, I want to say that it's possible that the reason why those movie theaters aren't showing Ponyo (I myself would like to see it) is because there's no demand for it there. Perhaps there aren't as many otaku individuals in WY as there are in CA or other states. I've also notice that although there are a lot of anime fans in America, the majority of the population here HATES anime. I've met people that not only dislike anime, but DESPISE it. Most Americans hate ANYTHING that's wasn't originated from America itself.

Also, I don't know what kind of town you live in, but from where I live, if I wanted to go to the theater (I don't go very often, but I'm considering going to see Ponyo), I'd HAVE to drive 40 milles to get there. There are no movie theaters in my........ I don't even know if I can call it a town.

Sorry your upset, but what are you going to do?

I sat in a theater waiting to see Ponyo and left 5 minutes into it because the picture was shaky.

Unfortunately, movie theaters are a business, so they have to make money. If they can't fill a theater with Ponyo fans, they're likely not to rent the movies from the production companies.

Still, you may have better luck in a few months, once it goes to DVD...

Well, the theaters in my 150 000 inhabitants town show more that six movies, but there is no one that is showing Ponyo. :(

La maison du cinéma

Cinéma Galaxy

Ciné-parc Orford

Cinéma Orford

And it's not a backwater town. And La maison du cinéma does show some independent films. But there only eight theaters showing it in Quebec, and seven of thems are in Montreal or in his suburbs.

For people in Quebec there is generally less problem for foreign shows, but there still a... kinda weird mistrust of anime.
People over thirty complain of "today japanese cartoons" (which ones  there only Naruto), and that it was so much better when there was "not japanese" stuff like that:

There is also that the networks don't show those hum... hum... "cartoons" anymore. :( When there showing old stuff it's Hanna Barbera and the people don't watch them because it's least good that hum... hum... "the good cartoons".

I lived in Laramie for about 4 years. Don't envy bigger towns. Just wait until you can rent it on DVD.

hehe, we fight about which theatre to go to when going to a movie. Within 5 minutes of my house there are 6 theatres =P. There even is one right across the street from me, but it is also the hangout area for junior high kids so that place can get annoying as hell. Sitting in a theatre with 50+ 13yr olds is no fun at all.

Feel sorry for you =/

Didn't mean to imply that anyone was living in a backwater, it's just simple economics.

It's not so much that we hate Anime, it's just that it's taking over all cartoons and graphic novels. Art should be about 'and', not about 'or' (in other words, you should be exposed to as many kinds of art as you like; not just latch onto one, and ignore the rest).

There are a lot of really good artists in Canada, and Europe, and even America, that are ignored because Anime can be done 'on the cheap'. Lots of up and coming artists are going to eventually think that all there is is anime.

Anime covers a lot of territory, from really strange stuff like futa, manga, etc (or eccch...;) There are occasional good works done in it, I just find that adult anime dealing with adult subjects (not just that kinda adult...;) fairly hard to find; is there a rule that you can't portray anyone over 18?
