not sure where this goes so it is a tv issue.

anyone else have this problem.

the problem is i have a toshiba tv which i play all my games on, i'm not sure of the specs on it. but it has a screen shaking problem which only seems to effect my ps2 the top of the screen bends and the whole screen shakes the shake is minor but annoying.

it seems to only happen on bright scenes or areas with lots of white, like destiny islands on kingdom hearts chain of memories, and xenosaga 2's second miltia. bright areas like those i put it in game mode and that stopped the problem for 2 seconds once i changed screens it started again.

i also have a box that all my games are plugged into it's a switcher type thing. i also have a radio fairly old one not plugged in sitting on the floor next to it, i looked up the problem they say it could be that but i got no where else to put it my room is tiny. it's also a fairly new tv is it just not compatible with ps2 or something.

cause this doesn't happen to my ps3, also i use composite not componet.

Does this box connect to the tv via Composite(the yellow cable) connection? Composite is probably the second the worse video connection outside of Coax. The video encoder inside the PS2 and PS3 are probably different so they handle colors and such much different, that could be why you don't see the issue on the PS3.

I would like to add, it is possible that there is some
video signal overload distortion during the white scenes,
may be why it bends at the top. I have not fuelled my
brain so I might be off at this point, and as the
previous poster said, the composite video does have
something to do with this, it isn't the best kind of
connection when you got all that video crammed into
one port.

yes composite is all i got, even for the ps3, so basicly it's just going to be something i'll have to deal with then. really distracting on xenosaga 2. and i forgot to mention pure whites get really warped. so you may be right littletigger. i do have a digital video cable for ps2 i might try that.

The "bends at the top" and jitter are likely being caused by excessive signal level, which is particularly problematic during bright scenes, resulting in a large peak-to-peak voltage swing with the synch pulses, causing clipping or clamping issues in the set's synch circuit.

Try going directly into the set, bypassing your switching box, or swapping inputs--maybe it just has a bad input channel which is not terminating the signal properly.

Composite video signals are supposed to conform to NTSC standard levels--it isn't an issue with having "all that video crammed into one port." If either the signal doesn't conform properly, or the set is malfunctioning, you will have problems.

If you can eliminate the switching box as the culprit, and everything but the PS2 works fine, then I suspect it is violating the standard in some way that the set cannot accommodate. Other sets may be more forgiving.

oh i figured it was the box i just didn't want to realize that, that box has been good up untill now, would that be the problem with my ps3's sound too, in that case i'm screwed i only have two composite hook ups and five consoles.

my old tv worked fine with it i guess because it was older, i'll try plugging directly into the tv and seeing if that makes a difference.

Here's another ugly possibility: Ground Loop

Make sure everything is plugged into a common mains source (like a single outlet strip). You might have to start unplugging stuff (both mains and signals) to see if this is causing the problem.

If you have a cable TV box or antenna, try disconnecting that first--that was causing a nasty ground loop with a friend's subwoofer.

Ground loops are a pain-in-the-a** even for experienced engineers. It seems there's always one that you hadn't considered, no matter how carefully you considered... :?

actually plugging the ps2 in to the tv directly fixed it's problem.

and i also plugged in the digital video, xenosaga never looked better, my last tv didn't look any better with or without the digital plug so i've never really considered it, but my new tv can.

thanks for the help.
