The comic book one.
In both, Ozymandias plot aims to make USA and USSR stop fighting to ally against a threat. In the movie, it is a bit weak : as Dr Manhattan was the retaliation weapon long used by USA, it would sound a bit like :
"Hello, do you remember Dr Manhattan, the superhuman weapon we used to threaten you during some decades ? He went havoc and now is threatening us, do you want to help us again him ?

It's more plausible than the graphic novel version. I once heard a somewhat plausible objection, saying that DNA testing would show that the creature was probably terrestrial (it did, after all, have a cloned human brain, that of a psychic), and that Ozymandias would never have let such an oversight go unnoticed.

The Dr Manhattan version for the movie has only really one major problem: how the hell did the Comedian find out about it? But other than that, I feel that it is more straightforward and less likely to fail than the much more complex version of the comics. It's probably the biggest part of the film that is superior to the original comic.

I still have yet to read the novel, but I loved the movie. I've got to order the novel from the internet sometime, as it probably wouldn't be in any book shops nearby. The first option sounds so much cooler though :D.

The movie's plot is so messed up.

It completely destroys the whole reason why the Comedian found out about it to begin with and why the story even existed. Comedian did recon on an island and found the whole plot for an alien invasion.

I usually go with books over movies, but in this case I have to say that the Dr. Manhattan as the weapon actually made a lot more sense and tightened the plot. The only problem I saw with going this route is that it makes The Comedian's break down in front of Malik a little out of place.

There's no reason for the Comedian for the comedian to have discovered Ozymandius' plot and therefore absolutely no reason for him to have been killed or for the story to take place. The Comedian discovered Ozymandius' plot by accident when doing a flyover and noticing large-scale activity on an island that's supposed to be uninhabited.

It makes more sense the other way when you actually factor in the whole story including the kidnapped artists and writers and what not that are mentioned in the various newspapers.

The problem is that Watchmen as an entity can't exist as a movie...it's too finely detailed and in order to change the story, you eventually have to destroy it. It could work as an episodic TV series on HBO or Showtime or something...but not as a movie. That completely eliminates the original point of the work: a study on morality through various personality archetypes and worldviews.

I think one thing I really missed in the film was the full effect of the various soliloquies. That's one thing that the motion comic got right over the film version. They treated it like Shakespeare rather than just droning.

That and the soundtrack.

I love the music picked for the movie but whatever happened to actual orchestral soundtracks for movies? This is a movie that demands a real friggin' soundtrack rather than some loser's mixtape.

Yeah, but I don't really have a problem with this, as a "he stumbled across some research notes or computer files about ozy's plan" wouldn't sound any less plausible to me than "he happened to fly over an island with Cthulu sitting on it (conveniently not screened in any way by Ozy).

It was actually more just the various ships going in and out that he noticed and caused him to investigate further. So he did stumble across it but it wasn't on computers or anything, it was on a flight back from his activities for the US government in South America...and the other way, he'd have no reason to investigate Ozymandius directly.

I like the movie's ending better.

Plot holes not withstanding, I love Ozy's undermining of Dr. M... superbeing, schmuperbeing.

Hmm... think I'll watch the ultimate edition today. Just the thing for a snowy afternoon.

only one flaw. the single voice actor does ALL of the voices, including the female voices. i wish they hired more than one guy to do it. also, they cut some scenes out. not cool

They did cut out a bit but it wasn't a complete re-write of the story and meaning of that story. It isn't like as if they turned Ozy into some cheesy "I'M THE BAD GUY WITH A SECRET GERMAN ACCENT THAT ONLY COMES OUT AT THE END!!" garbage.

By the way, there's no plot hole in The Comedian discovering Ozy's plan in the movie.

The Comedian was Nixon's personal spook and Nixon wanted to know what Ozy was doing with HIS super weapon...

There, now everyone can agree... The movie ending was better (it certainly made more sense and didn't undermine the main themes of the story).

again, the voice actor quality was mediocre
